Lad’s ears perked up and a low growl vibrated from the back of his throat. Her gaze landed on her lab with a frown. Lad usually loved everyone, and she wondered who could be at her front door that had him agitated? She strode over to it and peeked out the peephole, half expecting Freddy Kruger to be standing there by the way Lad’s fur stood up on end, and the snarl he produced to go along with his bad fur day. She sighed in relief when she recognized her visitor. She threw opened the door with a smile.
Lad came bounding to the door, snarling in rapid barks. She’d never seen him act like that—ever. “Lad, sit. It’s only Tim.”

You’re probably shouting, “Sloane, close the door!” Unfortunately, I don’t think she will. Come by next week to find out.

About the Book: My story in the collection is Heart of the Sea. Mermaids anyone?
Always trust your dog!
PT,
Absolutely.
Listen to the dog! He knows what he is dealing with. This is scary.
Animals sense what we can’t. Definitely, Sloane should listen.
A dog usually knows … cant’ wait to find out what has the dog disliking Tim so much.
Iris,
Yep, I’d listen to my dog.
It’s unanimous: trust your dog, and not the man!
Kim,
lol- in this case, it might be the wise choice.
Uh-oh. Lad knows something isn’t right. Good dog!
Christina,
He is a good dog, but will she listen to him?
Karen, you had to open the door and didn’t listen to your pooch! Now I’m mad. Intrigue continues.
Charmaine,
Yep the door is open. Tune in next week to find out what happens.
Oh noes, the poor dog is doing his best to warn her! Enjoyed the excerpt, loved the part about the dog’s fur…this story has some really nice twists and turns.
Veronica,
Glad you’re enjoying the tale. 🙂
Yep, she’s gonna regret not listening to Lad. Nice tension in the scene.
Joyce,
Thank you. Glad you’re enjoying the story.
Oh no! Tim is already turning, and Lad knows it! 🙂 Good snippet, Karen. I hope the dog doesn’t get hurt over this. 🙂
Teresa,
Glad you’re enjoying the story. As for Lad getting hurt… you’ll have to read on to find out. Sorry, no spoilers. lol
“It’s only Tim.” Yeah, famous last words. Great snippet, Karen. 🙂
Siobhan,
You are so right. lol
ONLY Tim. Yeah, right. Clearly she hasn’t bothered to read your book! I liked the ‘bad fur day’ line.
Ed,
lol- No, she hasn’t read any of my books because if she had… she’d answer the door a whole different way. lol Glad you liked the ‘bad fur day’ line.
Dogs have a true sixth sense about people and unseen forces. She should pay attention to Lad.
Carrie-Anne,
She should, but will she? She trusts Tim, too. She doesn’t realize she shouldn’t.
The dog knows something you don’t–it’s probably too late for her, though.
Caitlin,
Maybe…maybe not. 🙂
Animals are so intuitive, methinks she should have paid more attention to her pup’s warnings. Will look forward to reading next week to find out what happens. (Although I wonder if her under-the-weather condition will work to her advantage?)
Listen to Lad! Listen to Lad! Gah! … Great snippet by the way. 😉
Always trust a animals instincts. Sorry for being late. Great snippet. 😁
Oh shit this is going to get bad quick! But yes, always, ALWAYS trust your pets, they have instincts we don’t. So yes, I am definitely yelling “close the door!”
Daelyn,
lol- oh if only she’d listen to Lad.
