NOOK
Set up: Alan doesn’t believe Michaela has ever truly been in love. Read on and find out if you agree…
***Note: The snippet has been modified to fit the 8 sentence limit. Yes again there is some fancy punctuations and some long sentences. lol
****************************************************************************
“Okay, if there is such a thing as soul mates, how would you know you’d found yours?”
“I would feel the magic.”
Michaela lifted her brows not believing such nonsense, but his gaze touched hers and within the depths of his eyes laid the truth, the longing, the pain and wisdom of a much older man. She blinked and looked away confused.
“Is there no one waitin’ for ye at home then?” Alan asked again.
Blake, she thought, but that wasn’t true. He wanted to fix her, make her better, but it wasn’t the same as loving her. In all fairness, she didn’t love him either, at least not in the earth shattering way Alan described.
****************************************************************************************
So many ways to love someone… Alan has Michaela thinking about her past relationships… I’d say she hasn’t found the ‘one and only’.
Like always thanks so much for stopping by. I would love to know what you thought of the snippet.
If you’re interested here’s a blurb for Magic of the Loch:
Michaela Grant travels to Scotland for a holiday, knowing this vacation is her last. A medical condition threatens her life and any chance of a future—until she meets Alan MacLachlin, a man forced to exist between two worlds.
Alan is the legendary Loch Ness Monster. Once every fifty years he returns to human form in search of his soul mate, the one woman who can break his curse. He believes he has found forever with Michaela, but to claim it he must figure out how to save her life.
Michaela and Alan vow to take what time has to offer, but another threat looms. A sinister shape shifter with a vendetta against Alan is making Loch Ness his personal hunting ground. Now he’s threatening Michaela. Alan must discover who the shifter is and stop him before it’s too late.

I love this line:
within the depths of his eyes laid the truth, the longing, the pain and wisdom of a much older man
I’m with Paula—I love that turn of phrase. It’s beautifully written and so fitting on so many levels.
I love “reading” this book all over again through these snippets. And without giving anything away (I hope), I really liked the twist at the end with Blake. I hope he gets his own story someday!
Karysa,
Thank you so much. I so glad you loved the story and are enjoying reading about it again with these snippets. 🙂 Blake’s story? Hmm… maybe. 🙂
Oh she might never have been in love before…but I don’t know if that will be true for long. Soul mates : )
Millie,
You just might be right. 🙂
I love this moment. When she both rejects and then accepts the presence of magic. Wonderful 8!!
Sarah,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet and the way Michaela takes a look at herself. 🙂
I like her acknowledgement of her own shortcomings. Great snippet, Karen. 🙂
Beautifully writtten, wistful – I want the earth shattering kind of love for them to happen…excellent excerpt!
Veronica,
Thanks so much. 🙂
Here’s hoping he can get her to believe in and feel the magic too!
Ed,
We should all feel the magic at least once in our lives. 🙂
Fits with the magic in the story.
Thanks, Sue.

I’m glad you enjoyed the snippet and the ‘line’. 🙂
That kind of Magickal, earth-shattering love usually only comes along once in a lifetime, and should be treasured if it does come.
Carrie-Anne,
Yes, so true. 🙂
Good job of seamlessly adding a layer of complexity to Michaela’s character. Nicely done, Karen. 🙂
Teresa,
Thank you. 🙂
Wanting to “fix her” is really not working in Blake’s interest.
