This week another snippet from my new release, RODEO BLUES!
If you’re interested in last week’s snippet of Rodeo Blues here you go: Chapter One, Snippet One
Snippet: Rodeo Blues, Chapter Two
Meet Jolie and Whisper… (We’re skipping ahead to the end of the chapter.)
Jolie has just opened up her shop, Trinkets Galore. Whisper is a psychic and good friend of Jolie’s, and she wants Jolie to have some fun. Skeeter Blue’s annual Cowboy’s Christmas in July is starting, and all those rodeo cowboys will be gathering at Big Bob’s Saloon tonight. Whisper is trying to convince Jolie to join her there. She believes Jolie might even find the man of her dreams… Whisper is speaking first.

“There’s a storm brewing, Jolie Lockhart, and the man of your dreams will be riding in on it. I’ve seen it in the cards.”
Jolie glanced heavenward with a silent prayer for patience where Whisper was concerned. “I’ve never sat down for a reading with you.”
“No, but you’re a good friend and of course, I’m going to look out for you.” She sipped more of her coffee then reached for her bag to retrieve her pastry.
Jolie sighed, not bothering to explain to Whisper for the umpteenth time that there was no man of her dreams. The man she had loved with all her heart left town a long time ago. She’d moved on since then, but she’d yet to find anyone else who’d captured her heart in the way he had. Storm or not, she doubted it would bring anything more than a good downpour.

A storm’s a brewin’ all right, and his name is Tye Casper. 🙂 Can you take a guess how Jolie will react to seeing Tye again?
Hope you enjoyed the snippet.
Until next week, take care. Don’t forget to pop on over to the Christmas in July Event. All the details below.

Eight Seconds to Lose the Girl…
One chance to win her back.
Tye Casper, a.k.a. the Ghost Rider and champion bull rider, should be the happiest cowboy alive, but when he left home ten years ago to make it big, he said goodbye to the only woman he has ever loved. He’s had his eight seconds of glory, but without Jolie Lockhart by his side, the wins mean nothing.
He’s been given an opportunity to return home to Skeeter Blue for one last rodeo. He believes fate has sent him there and he’ll have a second chance with Jolie, but nothing goes as planned. He soon realizes staying seated on a bull for eight seconds may prove much simpler than winning Jolie’s heart.

I hope Jolie listens to whisper, she sounds like a woman of wisdom
Iris,
She might…
Love the interaction between the two, especially the prayer for patience!
PT,
So glad you enjoyed the banter. Whisper is definitely a character.
I’m going to take a wild guess and say the man of her dreams is about to return home for the rodeo. Am I right or am i right?
Ed,
You’re so quick. lol
Depending on how/why he left AND if he bothered to say goodbye, I imagine she’s liable to react badly to his reappearance, but the I imagine the sparks flying will be enjoyable for all.
Chelle,
Tye didn’t say goodbye, and sparks are definitely going to fly.
Love, love, love this snippet. You sure know how to grab the reader. Fun and heartbreak ahead.
Charmaine,
Thanks so much, Charmaine. 🙂
It would add a lot of credibility to Whisper’s character if she later reveals that she’s won the lottery several times! (Or at least a few scratch and sniffs.) 🙂
There’s a well known girl in Cajun folklore with a name similar to your MC. Just Google, “Jole Blon.” Or check her out on Youtube.
Nice 8. (Or ten, or twelve!)
Chip,
I’ll have to do that. Thanks for letting me know. 🙂
Wonderful, Karen. Excellent job of writing the characters’ voices! Fun-trouble ahead… 🙂
Teresa,
Yes, there will be. 🙂
Love the last line, Karen. Damn right it’ll bring a downpour. Isn’t there a song called “Raining Men”? 😀 Great snippet.
Siobhan,
Thanks so much! Is there a song called “Raining Men?” I’ll have to find it. lol
it cant be bad having the local psychic look out for you 🙂
Doesn’t she know thoughts like that are tempting fate? She’s practically guaranteed the storm will blow in the last person she expects to see.
Caitlin,
You are so right. lol Never tempt fate…unless you truly want to. 🙂
Wonderful snippet — can’t wait to see the “downpour” brings!! <3
Sara Barnard,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet.
If there is somewhere else to post this comment, I sure couldn’t find it. That said, howdy! I love the give and take of the gals’ conversation. It was fun and realistic.
Elizabeth,
Thanks so much. And yes, this is the right place to comment. 🙂
Never say never. You’ll be tempting fate if you do.
Love this setup! Really enjoyed the tone of the conversation between them…can’t wait for more.
Veronica,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet. 🙂
It’s in the cards! Nice set up.
Nancy,
Thanks you. 🙂
I have a feeling the lost man of her dreams is about to return to her!
She needs to have a little faith in life and in her friend. I love that pastry bag. 🙂
I really love that first line. It has such a classic feel to it, totally setting the reader up for wonders to come in the tale that follows. Nice work!
Love the banter between them! Already love Whisper as a character, and in my experience, Jolie would be wise to listen to her. A storm’s definitely a brewin’.
Great snippet!
