If you missed the last weeks snippet from
The Gryphon & His Thief, here’s the link.
Set up for this week: Darrien is free from his confines and has charged out of the motel room, but of course Calli is no longer in sight.
This scene is in Darrien’s POV.

He had a few hours before he had to return to the museum or else find himself vulnerable as he turned to stone.
He threw open the door to the motel room, and immediately his gaze riveted to the car space where Calli had parked her vehicle. Of course, he found it vacant. He’d expected no less, but still he cursed softly as he strode over to the spot. He inhaled deeply, finding her sweet scent beneath the car’s more odorous aromas. He would be able to track her and he shifted into the beastie, shielding his true self with magic.
Most humans could not perceive the Otherworldly realm, and still others dismissed it as a trick of the eye. There were only those few who could see through the trickery of magic and witness all things around them.

How do you think Calli sees the world? 🙂
Until next week, take care.

Some Treasures are Priceless…
A long time ago, a Gryphon shifter’s duty was to guard and protect the people of the tribes, but Darrien Andros failed to keep his human wife safe from harm. Cursed for the crime, he must guard everything in the Museum of Cursed Antiquities forever, never to truly live and never to die. Centuries have passed, but when he encounters a thief, who uncannily resembles his dead wife, he is convinced he has a second chance.
Calli Angelis is hired to steal Hecate’s Stone from the Museum, believing she would be returning it to its rightful owner. She never really trusted the person who hired her and now Darrien makes her doubt her motives, too. He also has her questioning the possibility of reincarnation when the attraction between them ignites into something she can no longer ignore.
As the two work together to unravel the mysteries behind the stone, it becomes apparent an old and dangerous enemy from Darrien’s past is determined to have history repeat itself.

I’m not sure he’ll make it on time to the museum if he is tracking her. That sounds a bit scary.
Linda,
You’ll have to wait and see.
He is determined to find her, I hope he keeps an eye on the time or he might wind up needing rescuing from her.
Chelle,
Stay tune. lol
Given the previous snippet (how he let thoughts and emotions get in the way of his wits), I’m thinking this chase may put himself into a vulnerable spot. Interesting…
I think he’s in for a big surprise . . . 😉
Sarah,
Oh you know it. 🙂
Hope he finds her in time! Terrific excerpt. Very vivid.
Joanne,
Thanks so much, Joanne.
Oh ho, so not completely invulnerable. Great snippet, Karen. 🙂
Siobhan,
A perfect hero would be boring. lol
Exciting snippet, will he make it!
Gemma,
Oh I can’t give that away…yet.
Now the question is, does he find her before or after she delivers the stone? And is the person she’s delivering it to one of those who can see through the magic? (Or is Callie?)
PT,
So many questions. lol And yes, they will all be answered… eventually.
Sweet. She just can’t get away from him. Doesn’t. She know that by now?
Cecilia,
Oh, but just wait and see what Calli is doing why Darrien is hunting for her. 🙂
I’m glad he can track her but now of course I’m worrying he’ll turn to stone in an inconvenient place…terrific snippet!
Veronica,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet.
I enjoyed your snippet. A weird world.
Aurora,
Thanks so much for stopping by. So glad you enjoyed the snippet.
You’ve written a story with humor and romance different from any I’ve had the pleasure to read. More to follow as the Gryphon chases after Calli. Exciting adventure, Karen.
If he’s that determined to track her over all else, he may find himself in the kind of predicament he just narrowly escaped.
If she’s as resourceful as I think she is, he’s going to need all the time he can get, and it might not be enough.
Loads of information without sacrificing emotions and atmosphere. I think Calli sees the world as it is–beyond the “trickery of magic”. Wonderful 8, Karen!
Yeah, I can see how turning to stone could be a problem for him. Nice bit about the scent tracking– it adds a sense of the mythic to the scene.
Interesting. You’ve got me wondering about the mechanics of tracking a scent even though she’s in a car (which might possibly be closed).
I think the “beastie” is about to discover he has a heart inside all that stone. I loved this story!!
