We’re continuing from where we left off last week. If you’re interested, here’s the link to last weeks snippet from WANTED:
Jace offers to bring JoBeth back to his home for supper. Since she’s an outlaw and he’s the sheriff, JoBeth is suspicious of his motives, but she’s obviously hungry and decides to go with him.
Jace Kelly’s POV.

At the doorway, she paused and met his eyes. “You’re taking a mighty big chance letting me out of here.”
His brows lifted. “Am I?”
She blinked and shook her head. “How do you know I won’t run?”
He tipped his hat back on his head, meeting her gaze with certainty. “I’m confident you won’t. It’s pretty darn cold out there tonight, close to freezing. I wouldn’t advise you runningβ¦ At least not on an empty stomach.”

So now you know why he doesn’t fear she’ll run. π I’m sure he’ll still keep a watch on her though. Hope you enjoyed the snippet of WANTED.
Until next week, take care.
About the Book:
Sheriff Jace Kelly’s wife died birthing his remarkable daughter, Emma. She inherited the families’ seer abilities. At six years old, she can’t tell the difference between a vision and an ordinary dream. So Jace doesn’t put much faith in Emma’s recent premonition: marriage for him and a new mother for her.
When JoBeth Riley arrives, Emma is convinced she’s the woman in her dream: dark hair, green eyes, and shamrocks in her pocket. There’s one problem β she’s the notorious outlaw, Baby Face Jo. Her stay in town is meant to keep Shane Maverick, the leader of the outlaw gang, from finding her before the authorities devise a plan to capture him.
JoBeth finds the Kellys a strange lot. A little girl, who believes her dreams are tales of the future and the rugged sheriff whose kindness proves a distraction. She’s an outlaw, for heaven’s sake, but Jace is bound and determined to steal her heart.

He’s a great man of the law! I really like him. His thinking and compassion.
Great story!
Iris,
Thanks so much. Glad you’re enjoying the tale.
If she’s desperate enough she’d run anyhow. I think that he’s betting that she’s more curious than desperate. (I love the tilting the hat back — so much awesome in such a tiny little detail.)
PT,
I think you just might win the bet. lol
I’m so glad you liked the gesture. π
I love the strength of character you have built in your hero. He trusts his instinct and not the ‘label’ and is not above using a succint bit of logic.
Kim,
Yes, he sees there is more to JoBeth and he’s willing to take the chance to find out what it is.
~Smiling~ Oh my, I like this book! It’s a great read, Karen!
Teresa,
I’m so thrilled you liked the story!!
Details do enrich the story and you’ve accomplished that in spades. Fine snippet, my friend.
Charmaine,
It means a great deal to hear you think so. Thank you so much!
I loved how they challenged each other. Great snippet, Karen, and great story. π
Siobhan,
Thank you so much. So glad you liked the story. π
Lol – at least he’s concerned she doesn’t try to run on an empty stomach. Great snippet.
Victoria,
He’s very considerate in that way. lol
I love a quietly confident man . . . but I would have taken her boots, too, just as a precaution. She’s resourceful! π
Sarah W,
lol– I like your thinking.
Hopefully his assumptions will prove correct, and she won’t run anyway. It wouldn’t be very wise to run in those conditions.
Carrie-Ann,
No, it would not be wise. π
Not sure the cold would deter her if she’s determined enough, but I do like him (loved the hat tipping). Enjoyed the excerpt, very different take on Westerns.
Veronica,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet.
Ya she’s going to stay. I think she kind of likes him. He baffles her.
Cecilia,
You are spot on with your observation!
ooohhh love this!! Great eight!!!
Sara,
So glad that you do!
You’ve built the sheriff to be an intriguing character. I wonder at what point (if ever) JoBeth will begin worry about her virtue, in the sheriff’s house.
Edward,
You are so right. The sheriff may be trusting, but JoBeth isn’t, π
Very nice–I sure wouldn’t run if it was that cold out. I like both of these characters.
Nancy,
Me neither. π
Perhaps he should feed her? But then she might feel more like escaping, except for a guilty conscience perhaps. He sounds like a cool guy.
Christina,
He is a cool guy, and JoBeth will start to see this. π
That sounds like a test but I’m sure she can also do with a warm meal.
Linda,
Wait and see. π
I’m liking this exchange– it reveals a lot about both characters and maintains the snappy tone you’ve established to this point.
Jeff,
Glad you’re enjoying the banter. π
Cold or not, if she’s desperate enough, she make a run for it. I love that last line of him saying at least not on an empty stomach! That’s a perfect touch. I think her curiosity is starting to get the better of her though that he’s being kind to her. Plus, food can be a tempting offer.
Great snippet!
He seems to really be keeping her off balance, he seems to know her so well and probably more than any one else she’s encountered. Love his empty stomach comment.
Great snippet! It’ll be interesting to see what a little kindness and leeway will get Jace – a somewhat compliant dinner guest, or a runner. Can’t wait to find out!
