Setup for this snippet: WIP from Heart and Soul. This is a snippet from my new ‘rock star romance’ that I’m working on. It’s in the very early stages.
Last week : By the time Maverick returned with the tea, he would have thought Katie and Rowan were close friends catching up on old times.
***
Rowan was telling Katie about how she’d carve large pumpkins last Halloween to look like Frankenstein’s Monster and the other to look like Dracula.
“Earl Grey latte with a splash of vanilla,” he announced his arrival and slid the cup toward her on the bar.
Rowan’s face paled and she stared at the cup as if he handed her some foreign concoction she should be wary of sipping.
“Is something wrong?” he asked, concerned over her odd reaction toward a cup of tea.
She finally met his gaze, her big blue eyes wide and curious. “How did you know this was the way I take my tea?”
***
Love to hear your feed back. π
About Heart and Soul…
80s rock star, Haley Rose went missing without a trace on October 31 1988 and was eventually presumed dead. Three decades later, a thirty-year old woman, Rowan Beckett recalls things only Haley Rose would know and she can belt out songs in the same fashion as the missing 80s star. However, Rowan couldn’t be the missing rock star since the woman would now be in her fifties. Could Haley Rose have came back reincarnated as Rowan Beckett?

I happen to love Earl Grey latte too – and a splash of vanilla makes it even better! I can understand her consternation though, this is such a fascinating premise!
Hywela,
An Earl Grey latte is one of my favorite drinks. π
I don’t know the answer to her question, but I’m curious about the answer
Ed,
I glad you’re curious.
That is a very specific drink. No wonder sheβs freaked out!
Christina,
Yes, it is. I’d be a little freaked.
Nice hook! Have you a created a niche genre, or does it already exist? I’d never seen rock star romance until I saw yours. π
Teresa,
I’d liked to take credit for the rock star romances but there are series out there. lol Though I don’t think there are ones that have a bit of a paranormal twist to them. π
A good question.
Aurora,
Rowan thinks so. π
Because he’s crazy about her!! Haha π
Amy,
He is but doesn’t quite know that yet. π
Very good question. How DID he know? Great snippet, Karen.
Siobhan,
Thank you. Glad you’re curious to know.
I’m already loving all the little mysteries in this story, let alone the even bigger mystery you have in the blurb. Great excerpt!
Veronica,
Thank you. So glad you are enjoying the snippets.
No wonder she wants to know. He knew exactly what she liked.
Elaine,
Yes, he did.
I can’t wait to see how he responds. Great snippet.
Jennifer,
Thank you.
Eerie … and intriguing ….
PS – loooove Earl Grey … never had it as a latte with vanilla though
He is totally walking all over the pie. I wonder what he is going to answer, way to get him all nervous again.
I love Earl Grey lattes (with vanilla, honey and lavender!) so I’m definitely in Rowan’s camp here, but to have someone I don’t know well walk up and hand me one I didn’t order? I’d be pretty creeped out too, just like Rowan is.
