Setup for this snippet: WIP from Heart and Soul. This is a snippet from my new ‘rock star romance’ that I’m working on. It’s in the very early stages.
Last week Maverick and Rowan are planning the Merry Mayhem Event. We’re continuing from there.
Maverick’s POV. Rowan is speaking first.

“We may find some raw talent we could work with, and the audience can have some input.”
“I’m game for that.”
As she made some notes on the iPad, she’d brought with her, he lazily took in her appearance. Her hair was arranged with one of those clip-doodads he’d seen so many women use to bind their hair. She wore very minimal makeup as far as he could tell but he was no expert. If it wasn’t caked on, he had no idea what women put on their faces. No matter what she used, she was beautiful, and she was easy to talk to as if he’d known her for a long time. She seemed at ease with him as well. He still couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d known her before meeting her yesterday. “Where did you go to college?” he blurted interrupting her question about lighting and the sound equipment.

About Heart and Soul…
80s rock star, Haley Rose went missing without a trace on October 31 1988 and was eventually presumed dead. Three decades later, a thirty-year old woman, Rowan Beckett recalls things only Haley Rose would know and she can belt out songs in the same fashion as the missing 80s star. However, Rowan couldn’t be the missing rock star since the woman would now be in her fifties. Could Haley Rose have came back reincarnated as Rowan Beckett?

Well, I suppose this is one way to conduct a surreptitious inquisition into where he might have known her. It might take him a while to get around to asking “Are you the reincarnation of a famous rock star?”

At least he didn’t blurt out – ‘have we met before?’, or something along those lines. He’s trying to figure this out on his own. Will he be successful?
I laughed out loud over clip “doodads”–guys wouldn’t be expected to know what to call that–and “caked on” makeup. You’ve got his POV down pat. Good snippet.
