Setup for this snippet: WIP from Heart and Soul. This is a snippet from my new ‘rock star romance’ that I’m working on. It’s in the very early stages.
Last week: Katie arrived at work and purposely steered the conversation back to business.
Maverick’s POV. Rowan is speaking first.

“Did you pick up any pumpkins?” Rowan asked as she turned toward Katie as if Maverick no longer existed.
“Of course. I planned on the two of us carving those babies up before we open tonight.”
“I’ll leave you two to it,” Maverick said and gathered the dishes on the bar. He had paperwork calling him anyway. His gaze took in the two women as they headed for the back door and his eyes fastened on the soft sway of Rowan’s hips. He shook his head as he forced himself to turn away. He told Rowan he liked to be in control but around her, his defenses were faulty. He had it bad for that woman, but unfortunately, he had to rein it in since she worked for him. Starting a relationship would inevitably muck things up. Now, if he could just get his libido on board with the decision to keep things professional, his life would be so much simpler.

80s rock star, Haley Rose went missing without a trace on October 31 1988 and was eventually presumed dead. Three decades later, a thirty-year old woman, Rowan Beckett recalls things only Haley Rose would know and she can belt out songs in the same fashion as the missing 80s star. However, Rowan couldn’t be the missing rock star since the woman would now be in her fifties. Could Haley Rose have came back reincarnated as Rowan Beckett?

Having relationships of the type he yearns for, with an employee, is like crossing a minefield. It can work, though — I was the principal at the school where my wife worked, and we didn’t kill each other or get the police called on me.
Then there is still hope for Rowan and Maverick. 🙂
