Keep in mind Heart and Soul is a WIP.
This is in Rowan’s POV. Last week, Rowan opened the back door so the band could bring in their equipment.

Maverick had told her Love ’em and Leave ’em was a local band. She hadn’t heard them play, but Maverick said they weren’t half bad. They had tried out for tonight’s timeslot with the previous manager.
The band had played together for four years, mostly at weddings and small gigs. This was a small gig too, but by far a more reputable establishment than any of the others they performed. It would carry influence when they were asked for references. She glanced at her watch. They had two hours before the show started. Plenty of time for sound-checks and a quick warm up.
“And there they are now,” she murmured as she spotted the band members at their van unloading equipment.
(This is the end of 10 sentences. for Weekend Warriors. Continue for Snippet Sunday 300 words or less, if you wish. :))
A twenty-something-year-old band member approached and held out his hand. “Hi, I’m Jess Barnes. You must be the new manager.” He stood perhaps 5′ 11” with smooth skin and eyes a light golden brown. He was prettier than he was handsome with thick wavy hair fashioned rockabilly chic.
She gripped his hand. “Yes, I’m Rowan Beckett.”
“Tristan’s my brother. He plays the guitar,” he pointed to where Tristan stood, and the brother waved. The resemblance was noticeable. He rocked his natural curls. “Max Hexter plays the bass.” He gestured toward a dishwater-blond with long hair pulled back with a leather tie. “And Phoenix Sutherland is on the drums.” He had black hair, probably dyed and striking green eyes, and skin so pale it proved unbelievable he lived in Southern California. Phoenix waved his drumstick in greeting before tucking them into his back pocket. “That’s us,” he said and turned back to face her.
“I’m happy to meet you, and I look forward to hearing you play.”

About Heart and Soul…

80s rock star, Haley Rose went missing without a trace on October 31 1988 and was eventually presumed dead. Three decades later, a thirty-year old woman, Rowan Beckett recalls things only Haley Rose would know and she can belt out songs in the same fashion as the missing 80s star. However, Rowan couldn’t be the missing rock star since the woman would now be in her fifties. Could Haley Rose have came back reincarnated as Rowan Beckett?
Sounds like a good opportunity for this band.
Jessica,
It is. π
Nice introduction to the band.
Oh, and “She gripped his hand. “Yes, I’m Rowan Beckett.” is in twice π
Iris,
Thanks for the catch. I didn’t see it there and copied and pasted it again. lol Didn’t realize it was in the wrong paragraph.
Glad you liked the intro.
A fancy set of youths. Does she prefer Maverick?
Aurora,
She does prefer Maverick.
It’ll be interesting to see how this band fits into the overall story you’ve got going on. I can think of various ways LOL (writer brain never turns off, does it?) so I’ll be eager to keep reading! Great snippet – I can visualize these guys now for sure.
Veronica,
There will be something. π
My husband’s played in bands all his life, so all of this was very familiar. And yes, this venue could be very beneficial to their future gigs. Great snippet!
Jenna,
So glad you enjoyed the trip down memory lane. π
Nice intro! I hope they figure into future scenes. I think they’ve found a motherhen in Rowan.
Nancy,
They have found a mother hen in Rowan, and there is a reason we meet the band. π
Great descriptions of the band members – makes me wonder if these folks will be significant to her past. I did catch one typo:
“than any of the other’s” should be “than any of the others”, no apostrophe.
Great snippet, Karen.
Siobhan,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet and tanks for the spelling catch. π
Karen, what a bit of wonderful expression. Love it as the story moves along.
Charmaine,
So glad you’re enjoying the story.
You’re got me wondering how this band is going to become important enough to be worthy of fairly long introduction. I gather from your storylines that you’re familiar with the rock scene. Did/do you play in a band?
Ed,
I never played in a band but I know quite a few artists. We’ve chatted and I’ve been behind the scenes where the magic begins. The musicians, I know, are very supportive of each other and will show up to each other gigs to cheer them on. I love it! I’d rather be at a concert than sitting home watching TV. π Though my concert going sometimes interferes with my writing. lol
Read the whole thing, and I want to hear them play too! π
Amy,
lol- Hopefully, you’ll enjoy their sound from the description. π
My reaction to the long intro of the band members was the same as the others. I assume they will be important to the story. I expected more of a reaction from her. Good snippet.
Diane,
The reaction is coming. π
I enjoyed the snippet in its entirety, and the image at the top really added to the visual as well. Great job!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the snippet and the image. π
Like everyone else I’m wondering how they’ll figure in to the story. Fun introduction. What a bunch of cuties.
They are a bunch of cuties. π Thanks for stopping by.
I wonder what part the band is going to play in everything. Great snippet.
