Twirl and Dip #8sunday #SnipSun #snippetsunday

Twirl and Dip (WIP) Drake’s POV

He only sang a few words and the girls closest to the stage screamed in delight. He would be fooling himself if he didn’t like the attention, but he needed a break, if only for a little while. He didn’t want to be served all his favorite dishes and he didn’t want to be waited on when he could do things himself. He needed space. He needed quiet. He needed to work with his hands again and build something.

He danced around the stage and played to the audience and even drew one of the girls up on stage to the two security guards’ dismay. Let them steam. What were they going to do? Fire him?

Possible Blurb:

Eastyn has her soda shop to run and specialty ice creams to create. Only the place is falling apart, and she may have a haunted jukebox that chooses songs to communicate. If things couldn’t get any more complicated, Drake, her ex-fiancé, returns home after five years on the road with his rock band, Never Mind the Damage.

Eastyn vows not to fall for Drake’s charms again, but when you have a lifetime of memories with the man, the heart seems not to care about pledges. Her haunted jukebox believes choosing the right song to twirl and dip to is the answer to everything. However, Eastyn isn’t convinced. She wants to know if Drake is home for good, or will he break her heart all over again?

Her dreams were a song from a previous life. To truly live again, she followed the melody home.

80s rock star, Haley Rose, and her boyfriend went missing without a trace on October 31, 1988, and were eventually presumed dead. Three decades later, thirty-year-old, Rowan Beckett, recalls things only Haley Rose would know, and she can belt out songs in the same unique fashion. However, Rowan couldn’t be the missing rock star since Haley would now be in her fifties. Could Haley Rose have come back reincarnated as Rowan Beckett? Or is Rowan as delusional as her family suspects?

  1. I’m liking this guy more and more. He’s very self-aware and down to earth. And a bit of a bad ass into the bargain. Great snippet!

  2. I’m enjoying this character’s stream of consciousness thinking even while he’s doing the performance. Can’t wait for more – terrific snippet!

  3. The trouble with favorite dishes is that, although you may not want them all the time, after a spell of absence you will want them again!

  4. You really show that he’s had it. His attitude toward what the guards might think? I think it looks like he wishes he couldbe fired. Nice writing!

  5. Good action. I especially liked his disdain for Security. Not that I think it’s smart, just that it characterizes him well.

Putting on my editing hat, I notice that this snippet has seven straight sentences that start with “He.”

  6. You’re depicting his burnout well. He’s going through the motions, causing a bit of trouble (for security)and dancing a very thin line behavior wise. From this alone I can see he needs a step back. Great snippet!
