This is a WIP.
He wanted to do something he enjoyed doing before his dreams of becoming a rock star became a reality. However, what were the chances Eastyn would need her place worked on when he volunteered to help his father? He sat back in his seat. “It’s not that I don’t want to, but you know Eastyn and I…well, we didn’t end things on good terms.”
“This is business. She needs things repaired and you’re the man to do it.”
“True, I am capable but—” “Good.” his father said as if he hadn’t heard the hesitation. “You can take the truck,” he said, pushing back his chair to stand. “Polly has equipment I can use at her place.”
(That is ten lines.)
He turned to leave but then glanced over his shoulder. “Maybe doing this job will give you and Eastyn a chance to sort things out.”
Drake pursed his lips. “I planned on making it right with her. It’s part of the reason I’m here. I just hadn’t thought it would be today.”
His father chuckled, making him stare at him “Son, you’ve waited five years. Don’t you think that’s long enough?”
“Do you believe she’ll even want me there even if it’s to work on her place?”
“There’s only one way to find out.” His father said and strode away not waiting to hear his reply.
Possible Blurb:
Eastyn has her soda shop to run and specialty ice creams to create. Only the place is falling apart, and she may have a haunted jukebox that chooses songs to communicate. If things couldn’t get any more complicated, Drake, her ex-fiancé, returns home after five years on the road with his rock band, Never Mind the Damage.
Eastyn vows not to fall for Drake’s charms again, but when you have a lifetime of memories with the man, the heart seems not to care about pledges. Her haunted jukebox believes choosing the right song to twirl and dip to is the answer to everything. However, Eastyn isn’t convinced. She wants to know if Drake is home for good, or will he break her heart all over again?

Mermaid Cove and Seaside Sundaes
Short story FROM THE WILD ROSE PRESS’ ONE SCOOP OR TWO SERIES!
One selfless act as a teen unfairly caused Sirena Seafair to forfeit her ability to shift into a mermaid.
Fifteen years later, her mundane life is about to change when Jack O’Casey arrives in the Irish town of Grimm Nitch and opens his restaurant, Mermaid Cove. The man is bound and determined to make Sirena his no matter what. But if by chance, Sirena can find a way to reclaim her life as a mermaid, will she leave Jack and her human life behind in exchange for a life beneath the sea? Or will surrendering her heart to love be the magic she’s been waiting for all along?
Oh, Drake’s father really is a troublemaker. But, this way he has a reason to be there.
Jessica,
Dad has his son’s good interest.
LOVE Dad! What a soul of wisdom. “Don’t you think that’s long enough?” Indeed!
Nancy,
I’m so glad you love Dad. 🙂
This is the forceful nudge I think Drake needs. I’m looking forward to more! 🙂
He did need a nudge.
His father is quite clever in forcing the issue. Drake has to try.
Yes, he does. What is the worse that can happen? 🙂
I like it! I was not ready for the snippet to end. I can hardly wait to read how the meeting goes and what her reaction is when she realizes that it’s Drake! Great snippet!
Teresa,
I’m so glad you enjoyed the snippet.
I like his no-nonsense Dad. Left to himself he might not have ever actually gone over there. Great snippet!
Veronica,
I’m glad you love Dad. 🙂
His dad is right, five years is long enough! I sympathize with his doubts, though. Five years might be too long.
Hopefully, it won’t be too long.
He sure is procrastinating and reaching for reasons not to see her. Father knows best. LOL
Yes, he does.
The father is a very subtle manipulator!
Ed,
Just trying to push his son along to do the right thing.lol
True, hadn’t he waited long enough?
Yes, he has.
He needed his father to kick his butt and get him going. Your dialogue is great!
I’m with Dad, five years is long enough. Sheesh!
Oh, I like the dad. I have this might all be a little more than coincidence 😉
Yep. Dad is playing matchmaker. (Gotta love him!)
