Last sentences of last week: He needed a job, but his resume lacked in that department. There weren’t many callings for singer and guitar players in Hartsville, not if he wanted to support a family.
Snippet:
“Oh hell,” he murmured under his breath. He was jumping ahead, wasn’t he? He hadn’t even won the girl back.
When he arrived in town last night, he believed working with his dad would assist him in figuring this all out. Something about a tool in his hand always helped him sort out his thoughts, but he hadn’t expected his dad to send him straight to Eastyn first thing.
“I’d go myself,” his father had said, “but Mrs. Van Gleason is expecting me first thing.”
Drake could handle minor plumbing problems, but not if it was more involved.
“She said her basement is flooded,” her father had explained as if he could tell Drake wanted to take Polly’s job instead.
Heck, he had wanted to chicken out and let his father take care of Eastyn’s shop.
So instead, here he stood at the Twirl and Dip, and Eastyn’s words about Polly told him all he needed to know. Yes, his father had been correct. He didn’t know how to repair a broken pipe, but he could have replaced a water heater. It made him wonder if his father had done this on purpose.
Possible Blurb:
Eastyn has her soda shop to run and specialty ice creams to create. Only the place is falling apart, and she may have a haunted jukebox that chooses songs to communicate. If things couldn’t get any more complicated, Drake, her ex-fiancé, returns home after five years on the road with his rock band, Never Mind the Damage.
Eastyn vows not to fall for Drake’s charms again, but when you have a lifetime of memories with the man, the heart seems not to care about pledges. Her haunted jukebox believes choosing the right song to twirl and dip to is the answer to everything. However, Eastyn isn’t convinced. She wants to know if Drake is home for good, or will he break her heart all over again?

Ha! I knew his dad was playing matchmaker!
And I bet his dad is smiling the whole time he’s working on Polly’s repair. lol. Drake is in a pickle. Great snippet!
Oh, yes, it was totally on purpose, and the kick Drake needed.
Oh yes, I’m sure his father had thrown him into the water on purpose. Probably with a smile on his face as well. Nice snippet.
Agree, with all the others. Definitely think his dad had an agenda. Love, love, love the photo. Really sets the scene, ever before getting to the snippet.
His father is a regular cupid. 😀 Love that pic at the top of the post. Makes me wish I was there, ordering a chocolate malt.
Well, duh! Dad is cagy and I love it! Great snippet…
Oh, yeah, he did it on purpose. Nicely done, Dad.
Let’s hope his limited plumbing skills are enough to keep from embarrassing him in front of Eastyn.
Looks like Dad might know why he’s back better than Drake even does.
Matchmaker Dad!
