Snippet:
With the screws unfastened, he easily removed the Twirl and Dip sign from the mount attached to the front of the building. He brought it inside the shop and placed it on the nearest table so he could replace the neon tubes. He first had to take the insulating cap off and untwist the tubing while making sure not the break the tubulation. Hopefully, it was just a loose wire and not the tubing itself that needed to be replaced, but if it was, that would have to be ordered.
Why hadn’t Eastyn laid into him? He deserved it. He had hurt her with his stunt he pulled, kissing a woman he hadn’t even cared about, but he’d been stupid and full of himself. He was high on success and thought he could do whatever he wanted to do without consequences. Only it cost him dearly, didn’t it? He lost his best friend, lover and fiancée all in one fell swoop.
Possible Blurb:
Eastyn has her soda shop to run and specialty ice creams to create. Only the place is falling apart, and she may have a haunted jukebox that chooses songs to communicate. If things couldn’t get any more complicated, Drake, her ex-fiancé, returns home after five years on the road with his rock band, Never Mind the Damage.
Eastyn vows not to fall for Drake’s charms again, but when you have a lifetime of memories with the man, the heart seems not to care about pledges. Her haunted jukebox believes choosing the right song to twirl and dip to is the answer to everything. However, Eastyn isn’t convinced. She wants to know if Drake is home for good, or will he break her heart all over again?

Sounds like Drake grew up since he left, but I wonder what he’s willing to do to fix things.
I love the juxtaposition of the technical details of fixing the sign and his regrets and memories. Great snippet!
I think I’d like to see a transition sentence between what he’s doing and his thoughts so the juxtaposition isn’t so abrupt between excellent observations and deep internal thoughts. Good for him for knowing he needs to make amends.
Oh, the taste of regret with a side of remorse… He might actually be ready for a real, selfless kind of love for Eastyn. 🙂 Great snippet!
Sounds like he’s almost disappointed she didn’t yell at him. Maybe he was hoping for a quick clearing of the air, but of course it can’t be that easy.
And I learned a new word: tubulation!
Ah. It’s nice to have some idea about the troubles in their past!
He seems to think Eastyn yelling at him will start to fix everything, but I think it’s going to take a lot more than that.
Wanting Eastyn to yell at him would be the easy way out of his guilt. She’s not going to give him that satisfaction it looks like. Good for her!
Fixing the sign is a good metaphor for wanting to fix his relationship with Eastyn. I wonder what he will come up with.
