Set up for the scene: Michaela agrees to let Alan and Hyatt give her a tour of the loch so she can search for the legendary Loch Ness Monster. They’ve arrived in front of Castle Urquhart where most of the sightings of the Loch Ness Monster have been. Alan goes on to describe the ancient castle in loving detail. Michaela says she’d like to take a tour of the Castle and Alan offers to give her a lift there tomorrow.

I…” Her words trailed off making him think she was searching for a way to say, no thanks.
He shrugged as if he didn’t care, but his damn heart pounded hard against his ribcage proving him a liar. “Ye can let me know. I’ll be goin’ no matter what.” This gave her a way out if she wanted it, while leaving the invitation open.
“Thank you.” Her sweet smile was for him only and he found his lips curving in response.

He’s smart not to push too hard. Well done!
Willa,
Alan is a smart man. lol
I bet she goes! I would! 😀 She just doesn’t want to seem too eager, you know, make the guy wonder for a while 🙂
Owllady,
You might just be right. lol
I like his strategy of not outright asking but not making it out of the question either.
Carrie-Anne,
Alan is a smart guy. 🙂
Oh! It’s so sweet how just the little bit of hope makes him happy. 🙂
S.J.,
Yes, it does.
I wonder if she can tell that he’s faking his indifference?
P.T.,
Only time will tell… lol
I so love this story – another excellent excerpt today. You definitely gave us real people to care about!
Veronica,
Thanks so much. 🙂
I love that whole, “I’m going anyway with or without you…” too cute. Something tells me she’ll take him up on his offer.
Millie,
You could be right. lol
Clever guy not to push.
He’s the most adorable immortal monster ever. 🙂
Sarah,
Isn’t he though? lol
How nice of him to extend that invitation. I think she should take it. Nice 8!
Frank,
I think she should, too. lol
I like it that he leaves the decision to her. Now, if she’s the least bit interested, she’ll accept to go.
Rayne,
Yep, smart move on his part.
He leaves her feeling she would be welcome, but she’s not imposing on him.
Sweet snippet. I like how he’s holding back interest. Nice job!
I like how we get a glimpse of his shyness but he tries to cover it up. Its sexy. Lovely snippet
Has anyone else used a sweet smile to denote “I’ll consider it?”. Well Done with the 8’s.
