Tim stood up straight when he caught sight of her. For a brief second, she could have sworn his eyes had an eerie glow to them, like a pair of eyes looking back from a thicket, warning her of danger, but she blinked and his eyes were the same soft brown color she’d remembered.
“Are you going to ask me in?” he voiced and his brows lifted in question. He looked a little pale, but not feverish. It was good to know the flu would only last twenty-four hours.
“Sure, but I must warn you I think I caught what you had a few days ago.”
“I’ve already been exposed and I doubt I’ll catch it twice,” he said.
She opened the screen and stepped aside, then frowned when he didn’t move. “Well, come in already.”
His lips slid into a grin, but the smile made her uneasy.

Does Tim seem a little pleased to be invited in?

About the Book: My story in the collection is Heart of the Sea. Mermaids anyone?
Oh my, so intrigued by this story. I just bought it on Amazon. The premise is so good. 🙂
Teresa,
Thank you so much! Hope you continue to be intrigued. 🙂
Yeah, she’s about to catch what he has…
Ed,
Yep, I think she will.
Methinks she needs to listen to that little voice that says something isn’t right… Love the bit about the eyes.
PT,
Glad you liked that part. 🙂
No, no! Listen to the dog! Hopefully she’ll still be somewhat cautious around him.
She didn’t follow her instinct or what the dog barked so now she’s in a heap of heap. Help!Fine snippet.
Charmaine,
She might have listened to Lad if it hadn’t been her boyfriend. She doesn’t realize she should fear him.
I think her “flu” is about to get a lot worse. Love all the subtle clues in this.
Joyce,
A whole lot worse as you shall see.
I kept wanting to yell at her NOOOOO! Really a great snippet, the impending doom…..can’t wait for more.
Veronica,
lol- you should be screaming NOOOO! Thanks so much for stopping by.
Oh good, at least she’s getting a visceral warning. Great snippet, Karen. 🙂
NO! Don’t invite him in! Doesn’t anyone watch the CW channel? Great sneak peek, Karen.
Nancy,
Lol- Obviously, Sloane doesn’t.
Always, always, always listen to the dog! Great tension in this snippet!
His smile made me uneasy too! Great snippet!
Very unnerving scene Karen. Well done!
I guess the invite myth holds for at least this kind of vampire. But now she’s gone and let him in, and I don’t trust that smile, either.
Gah! Tension is ramping up! And I love the “aren’t you going to let me in line.” Great work!
Dogs know best. I can’t wait to see if she’ll regret letting him inside.
This is getting really dangerous. Where are the vampire hunters went we need them?
