Chapter 4. This is in Derek’s POV.
Quick update from last week: Derek fought Tim (vampire), wounded him, and the vamp escaped. Derek is left with Sloane who may or may not be a vampire too. He recognized Sloane earlier from a photo that she was an old flame from high school. Sloane has not made the connection. It’s been ten years and Derek isn’t a scrawny teen, and besides she’s had a shock of her life. Vampires are real! Now for the snippet. Sloane is speaking first.

“He hasn’t been feeling well,” she defended Tim’s actions.
Denial always came first. “Yeah, and how are you feeling?”
She licked her lips then pursed them as she eyed him with suspicion. “If he’s contagious, I need to see a doctor,” she said in confusion and tears sprung to her eyes, making them turn more blue than grey, but then he noticed her hands shook as if she were strung out and in need of a good fix.
“Oh, you’re good,” he drawled.
“What?”
“All innocent and with tears even,” Derek said as he aimed his crossbow at her chest. He couldn’t go soft just because she looked hot in her black-laced shirt that was just short enough to show a bit of skin at her midriff, and damn it if the woman didn’t have the biggest blue eyes he’d ever seen. He’d been a sucker for those eyes in high school and it proved no different now.

He’s just a tad bit distracted, don’t you think? lol

About the Book: My story in the collection is Heart of the Sea. Mermaids anyone?
oH, nice little cliffhanger … he’s not going to shoot, though, is he?
Iris,
You’ll have to wait and see. ๐
He is distracted, thank heavens, or he’d have shot her already with that crossbow! I really wonder is she’s infected… Great job setting the hook, Karen. ๐
Teresa,
If it had been anyone else but the girl he had a thing for, she’d be staked and dusted.
More than a little, I think! Good luck on your contest. I will give you a vote!
Elizabeth,
Thanks so much for the vote. Greatly appreciated!
Focus man and forget about her eyes! Great snippet. Thanks for sharing. ๐
Heather,
Yes, he needs to get his head back in the game. lol
Oh man, this is taking a turn I hadn’t expected. I’m not complaining. An interesting situation just became enthralling.
Ed,
So glad you’re enthralled. ๐
His mouth says one thing, his eyes say another… Great snippet!
Amy,
Yes, you could say that. lol
He’s distracted, I don’t want him to have to shoot her…I’m SO invested in this story. Great snippet!
Veronica,
Thank you so much.
I guess in those circumstances it’s better to shoot first and ask questions never, but… shouldn’t it occur to him that she might really be innocent?
Caitlin,
She might be, but she does have those bite marks on her neck.
Definitely don’t fall for it! Stay strong!! ๐
T.M.,
lol- Let’s hope he takes your advice.
Heck, he’s just looking for an excuse to not listen to his heart, isn’t he? ๐ Nicely done!
Karysa,
You got it. ๐
He’s contagious, hun, but it’s nothing a doctor can help you with…
P.T.,
She’ll figure this out soon enough.
haha, he read her well and he’s making sure he doesn’t make past mistakes. Great snippet.
Cecilia,
I don’t know he’s a sucker for her blue eyes. lol
I don’t think he should jump to conclusions! Really looking forward to next time!
Joyce,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet.
Oh dear, surely he won’t do anything rash! Great snippet ๐
What? She is already a vampire? Did she change Tim herself? I didn’t see that one coming!
Linda,
I know it’s been a long time, but in the first snippets it’s explained that a Nosferatu’s bite is lethal. Once bitten, the person is infected and will eventually turn. There’s no cure, no going back.
Fun snippet… You definitely capture that distraction! I love how he runs it down, detail by distracting detail.
Jeff,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet. ๐
