Welcome to Snippet Sunday.
If you missed the last weeks snippet from The Gryphon & His Thief, here’s the link.
Set up for this week: We’re back to The Gryphon and His Thief.
Skipping ahead again.
Calli tells Darrien she’ll look into Professor Leander’s claims that the stone belongs to her company that has financed the archaeological dig. Darrien argues she is in danger if she keeps the stone, but Calli isn’t listening anymore. Darrien is handcuffed to the bed and not going anywhere. So she’s packing up to leave… or rather packing…

“What are you doing?” he asked.
“Never you mind,” she told him as she pulled the gun free from under the table. She only kept a weapon on her for emergencies and to think she almost hadn’t packed it for this assignment. The semi-auto was the Ruger LCP Revolver—lightweight, large enough to fit in her palm, but powerful enough to hold its own. This baby held five rounds. The perfect weapon for tight situations, just point and shoot.
“As you can see, I can take care of myself,” she said and noticed his eyes were focused on her weapon and not her.
“Are you going to shoot me?” he asked as he shifted his gaze.

Do you think Calli will shoot Darrien? She couldn’t be that cold, could she?
Thanks for stopping by!
Until next week, take care.

Some Treasures are Priceless…
A long time ago, a Gryphon shifter’s duty was to guard and protect the people of the tribes, but Darrien Andros failed to keep his human wife safe from harm. Cursed for the crime, he must guard everything in the Museum of Cursed Antiquities forever, never to truly live and never to die. Centuries have passed, but when he encounters a thief, who uncannily resembles his dead wife, he is convinced he has a second chance.
Calli Angelis is hired to steal Hecate’s Stone from the Museum, believing she would be returning it to its rightful owner. She never really trusted the person who hired her and now Darrien makes her doubt her motives, too. He also has her questioning the possibility of reincarnation when the attraction between them ignites into something she can no longer ignore.
As the two work together to unravel the mysteries behind the stone, it becomes apparent an old and dangerous enemy from Darrien’s past is determined to have history repeat itself.

“Are you going to shoot me?” 🙂 Well, that’s a fair enough question. 🙂 Nicely done, Karen.
Teresa,
I think it was a fair question, too. 🙂
I hope she’s not going to shoot him. Actually, I hope he breaks the handcuffs…
(Should that be “small enough to fit in her palm”?)
PT,
I know these snippets drop the readers in the middle of the scene. lol
I was making a point that the gun wasn’t a tiny nothing pistol and only good for one shot, but a pistol large enough to fit her hand perfectly, but small enough to be hidden on her person as the reader will realize in the next paragraph or two of the scene. 🙂
Seriously guy, leave the girl alone, it’s not a good time, she is pissed and dangerous.
Linda,
Wise advice. lol
I wouldn’t have given her any ideas, myself! 😀
I love this couple so much, Karen!
Sarah W,
lol- You’re right. It might have been safer for him to keep quiet.
Love it when the woman takes charge-with a gun! Good eight. Exciting and a bit of a cliffhanger.
Charmaine,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet and Calli’s take charge attitude.
Now that’s a fair question. Hope she doesn’t shoot him.
Victoria,
We shall see. 🙂
Uh oh, he has gotten himself embroiled with a female that can take care of herself! I like this snippet, a very Indiana Jones feel — and we love Indy!! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Sara Barnard,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet. I love Indiana Jones!
great way to end the 8 and I’m thinking she’s not going to shoot. LOL. she’s very savvy with her weapon of choice
I love a woman who knows her way around a weapon and isn’t afraid to use it. One of my greatest sources of pride is having been the only woman in my shooting sports class, particularly since the only other woman dropped the class before we even got to the shooting section.
Carrie-Anne,
That’s fantastic you stuck it out. Good for you.
Maybe she’ll shoot him in the leg just to slow him down? I don’t think she could kill him.
I always look forward to your snippets– they’re always punchy & precise. Very nice work.
Jeff,
Thanks so much for the lovely compliment. 🙂
Why do I get the feeling that that one thing she should unpack is her shovel?
Rafael,
Maybe it’s in the trunk of her rental…or not. lol
Great snippet–she can definitely take care of herself. Love his question!
Nancy,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet. 🙂
“Are you going to shoot me?” LOL!!! I think someone is a bit nervous. I love that you ended the snippet there. 🙂
Jennifer,
So glad you loved the cliffhanger. 🙂
I don’t think she’ll shoot him, but she might leave him handcuffed there! Nice snippet.
Dianne,
Oh you just might be onto something there. lol
He certainly sounds rightfully worried, he didn’t see that (the gun) coming for sure. We, the readers, are a bit worried for him too.
She’s got a terrific confidence level.
Great snippet.
Chelle,
So glad you liked the snippet. 🙂
Poor guy, things are just NOT going his way. I can’t imagine she’s going to shoot him though…but of course I’m intrigued and can’t wait to read more. Excellent excerpt!
I can understand that he’s worried … nice piece on the little weapon 😉
