Tuesday is St. Patrick’s Day! So I’m changing it up this week. This is a snippet from my Irish time travel tale…Echo of Time.
If you missed last week’s snippet of The Gryphon and His Thief, here’s the link:
Set up for this week:
Kendra has just time traveled back in time to medieval Ireland where she’s been taken hostage by some unsavory men, but Cian arrives on the scene… He is speaking first.

“I believe the lady asked ye to unhand her.”
Her captor stilled and Kendra craned her neck to see who’d come to her rescue this time. Her lips trembled as she took in the width of her rescuer’s heavy shoulders, hard muscled thighs and face of a god. He had wheat colored hair braided in a medieval style and eyes the color of a stormy sky. Her breath caught in her throat as she realized this was the man she’d envisioned at the Blarney Castle!
The buffoon who held her let her go and readied his broadsword. “Tell me yer name so I, Dougal, may tell yer kin ye have left this world.”
“Cian Laidir o’ the MacCarthys at yer service,” the man bowed with an over exaggerated flair before his lethal gaze sought his adversary, “but I am afraid it is ye who will see the fiery pits o’ hell this day.”

Cian to the rescue!

A short Irish paranormal time travel romance Kendra O’Reilly felt a connection with the Blarney Castle as if the echoes of the past could still be heard. The guide tells her a story about the Blarney Stone being the ancient Lia Fáil, one of the magical gifts from the god-like race, the Tuatha Dé Danann. To wish upon it, one will see where his or her destiny lies. Kendra wishes to find her one true love. She never thought she’d be whisked back to fifteen-century Ireland to find him.
Cian MacCarthy, the Lord of Blarney not only possesses the gift of Irish eloquence but he also has visions of the future. He’s waited for Kendra’s arrival, knowing she is his soul mate. Now all he has to do is convince her she belongs at his side.

I love this excerpt. You have the language exactly right, and now that’s her true love has arrived, I’m not worried about her at all.
Elaine,
Thanks so much for the compliment!
OMG he sounds like a god, too 🙂 Loved the snippet, and I liked the use of the language. well done.
Iris,
So glad you liked the medieval banter! 🙂
Love the trash talking!
Interesting blurb — I think she needs to learn to be careful what she wishes for.
PT,
lol- trash talk is trash talk no matter what century. lol
Just out of curiosity, what is braiding in a medieval style? I’m having a hard time picturing it.
Here’s examples of a medieval hairstyle with braids. 🙂
I have the feeling that this is going to be a fight straight to the point.
Linda,
You can definitely bet on it. 🙂
I love the premise, Karen—and I admit, I lingered over the description of Cian, just a bit! 😀
This sounds like the perfect showcase for today, Karen! I can’t wait to read it.
Sarah W,
Cian is definitely a man worth lingering over. 🙂
What a delicious bit of Irish shenanigan’s to the rescue. Thanks for the blarney and good wishes a few days before the parade. I live in Pearl River, NY, the largest enclave of Irish in the states and proud of it.
Charmaine,
You’re welcome for the good wishes. 🙂 One can never have too many.
Sounds like you’ll have a lot of celebrating going on in your neck of the woods! lol
Oh that’s awesome, Karen. I love him even if he could bench-press a Buick. Great snippet!
Siobhan,
I’m glad Cian impressed you. lol
Love this fitting St Patty’s Day snippet! Fiery pits o’hell are a great start to a Sunday! <3 Great job, as usual Karen!

Thanks so much, Veronica!
I’m not sure if it’s the reaction you were after, but the inclusion of the words, this time, made me chuckle, mostly because I wondered just how many times this has happened to her. Great snippet Karen, and happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Jess,
lol- The scene is in the middle of the chapter. She’s being slightly snarky. Kidnapped, then she escaped only to be captured a few moments later by another man from the clan…now Cian shows up. 🙂 It’s been a tough day for her. lol
This sounds like a must-read! Excellent snippet, Karen.
Happy St. Paddy’s day. Erin go Braugh!
I can’t leave a comment. I’m still fanning myself over his description. 😉 Great snippet.

I love your description of Cian. He doesn’t sound like someone to fool around with.
Fantastic description of her savior… plus, you get bonus point for using the word, ‘buffoon’. 😉
