Welcome to Snippet Sunday!
About this snippet: Chapter One (Don’t Fear) The Reaper Snippet 18. Check out last week’s snippet here.
Recap from last week’s snippet: Cecilia found her father’s journal hidden beneath a floorboard and placed it on the desk in hopes of reading it later. She turned away but a sound startled her and she whirled around in surprise.
The story is in the very early stages and has not been edited.
**********************************************************************************************************************
She found the journal had fallen and lay at her feet, opened to a page where a slip a paper rested within the crease. She leaned down and reached for the note and unfolded it. The first lines seemed to jump out at her, making her feel dizzy and queasy as if she’d indulged in her mother’s stash. “What the hell?” She stood and read the lines again.
I don’t fear the reaper. It’s the humans with death in their eyes that scare me shitless. If you’re reading this, death found me when my back was turned.

That’s all for now. Only 8 sentences, but thought it was a good place to end this snippet. 🙂 So… was this a premonition or brooding lyrics to one of her dad’s songs. He did jot down song lyrics in the journal? What do you think?
Love to hear your feedback.
Unofficial Blurb for End of the Road
Lars Gunner, the frontman for Silent Plaids, died 23 years ago and is trapped in limbo until his daughter, Cecilia, unearths his journal and is able to see him. His death was ruled an unfortunate accident, but he’s convinced it had to be murder despite the fact he can’t recall what happened in his last moments of life. Cecilia seeks the help from Kaleb, a psychic, but as they resurrect the past, the secrets and lies surrounding Lar’s rock and roll life just may be the death of them too.

Wow–that’s some message! Great eight sentences!
Glad you’re wowed. 🙂
Brooding lyrics indeed, but could they be hiding something else? Intriguing once again! 🙂
Jessica,
I’m so glad you’re intrigued.
Yikes, that sounds ominous, lyrics or not!
Christina,
Yes, it does.
The premonition of death is powerful.
Charmaine,
Now, is it a true fear?
Intriguing and suspicious.
Aurora,
Yep.
If that’s not a call to avenge his murder, I don’t know what is. Nicely done, Karen!
Nancy,
Thank you so much.
Oh wow, that’s some note she found! Really intriguing and I can feel the pull of the mystery that lies ahead…great snippet.
Veronica,
I’m so glad it does.
Chilling!
I don’t think I’d leave the journal where her mother could find it, though — I hope she takes it with her.
PT,
Hopefully she will.
This gave me chills! Great writing.
AR,
Thank you.
Yikes! Cryptic, but very threatening. Makes me wonder who he’s talking about!
Ooo ominous last lines. Loved it!
Oh, that’s creepy, but I imagine less menacing than it sounds. Like something you would keep in there, regardless of circumstance.
Ahh, the hint of unsavory villains involved with his death. Love it.
Ed,
So glad that you do. 🙂
Wow! Cryptic and scary. Great snippet.
Oh wow … very intriguing … and what a note to find for a daughter!
Iris,
It does send a message, doesn’t it?
What a message! Scary. Now she has a choice to make. Does she try to find out more or drop the note like a hot poker?
