Pity party for one… End of the Road @KMNbooks #8sunday #snippetsunday

About this snippet: Chapter One (Don’t Fear) The Reaper Snippet 6.  Last week snippet is here.

Cecilia’s mother is watching a film of her dead husband’s band rehearsal, but Cecilia turns off the projector, making her mother acknowledge she is there.

This story is a WIP. The story is in the very early stages and has not been edited.

Cecilia moved around the couch and took a seat next to her mother. She reached for the bottle but her mother moved it out of her reach. “I think you’ve had enough,” Cecilia told her gently.

“I’ll say when I have,” Phoebe hissed and her features hardened and her bloodshot eyes didn’t quite focus on her as she sneered.

She tried a different approach. “I’ve been phoning you and it’s been three days, Mom” she added for meaning.

Her mother’s brows puckered together. “Three days?” she repeated her words with a shaky voice, losing some of its hostility.

She nodded and her mother lowered her hand then finally handed her the bottle. She placed it on the coffee table to join the other bottles her mother had indulged in while she had her pity party with her dead father.

Unofficial Blurb for End of the Road

Lars Gunner, the frontman for Silent Plaids, died 23 years ago and is trapped in limbo until his daughter, Cecilia, unearths his journal and is able to see him. His death was ruled an unfortunate accident, but he’s convinced it had to be murder despite the fact he can’t recall what happened in his last moments of life. Cecilia seeks the help from Kaleb, a psychic, but as they resurrect the past, the secrets and lies surrounding Lar’s rock and roll life just may be the death of them too.

  1. Very nice–lots of emotion going on between Cecilia and her mother. I think I’m going to like this book!

  2. How sad for both of them, but worse for the daughter. She’s losing her mother to the bottle. This excerpt is well done. We can feel the emotion of both of them.

  3. That’s such a sad situation, for everyone involved. I hope Phoebe is able to find some peace and harmony eventually, both with Cecilia and herself.
