About this snippet: Chapter Two (Cemetery Gates) Snippet #11. Check out last week’s snippet from Chapter Two snippet #10 here.
Setup for this snippet with a recap from last week: Cecilia laughs at the intruder’s claims that he is her father. Her father has been dead for 23 years and this man could only be in his twenties. The man doesn’t appear pleased at her response but before he could say more the floor lamp flickers.
Now for the snippet…

Just as the room threatened to go dark, the crackle of electricity brought the light bulb back to life once more.
She stared wide-eyed at the Lars Lookalike for a full two seconds before she realized why something seemed off. She could see the lamp standing tall and bright but not to the side of him; she could see the lamp right through him as if his body mass had suddenly gone transparent. She closed her eyes then reopened them again as if doing so would clear her vision, but nothing changed.
“What’s wrong?” he asked with concern.
Now, wasn’t that a loaded question? “You’re…” she pointed at him and swallowed the lump in her throat. “I-I can see right through you.”
The Lars lookalike glanced down at himself and cursed then said, “I’m sorry,” before he winked out. It was the only way she could explain what she witnessed.

I don’t know about you, but that would certainly freak me out. lol
Blurb:
Lars Gunner, the frontman for Silent Plaids, died 23 years ago and is trapped in limbo until his daughter, Cecilia, unearths his journal and is able to see him. His death was ruled an unfortunate accident, but he’s convinced it had to be murder despite the fact he can’t recall what happened in his last moments of life. Cecilia seeks the help from Kaleb, a psychic, but as they resurrect the past, the secrets and lies surrounding Lar’s rock and roll life just may be the death of them too.

I wonder what he’s apologizing for. Seems perfectly natural for a ghost. She’s taking it quite well, though.
P.T.,
He didn’t want to disappear. He finally found someone who could see him.
Kind of amusing as well as odd.
Aurora,
Odd is right. It’s not every day that your meet your father who died 23 years ago and then have him disappear. Remember she didn’t believe he was her father because that would mean he was a ghost. Guess he proved his point now. lol
Yes, I’d be freaked out, too. Then I’d wonder if I imagined or dreamed the entire thing. Wow, what an experience!
Jessica,
She might be thinking she did too. 🙂
I liked his ability to wink out and the set up to her shock. Nicely done. #wewriwa
Trin,
Wouldn’t be a bad thing to be able to do. lol
Aw, man, I’m see-through! Darn! Sorry.
I’m only a ghost of my former self . . . Love this scene, Karen. Can’t wait to see how she explains this away.
Nancy,
I’m so thrilled you loved the scene. 🙂
It’s all very cool and I love the ghostly details of this visitation. Great snippet!
Veronica,
Thank you.
This gets better and better. Fine story you’ve written, Karen.
This gets better and better, Karen.
Charmaine,
Thank you.
Yeah, I think I’d freak out, too. Nice descriptions, though, can’t wait to see what happens next.
Nancy,
I’d be freaked out too. 🙂
Yep, that would definitely freak me out.
Ditto.
I could see why he’d be annoyed. Transparency would be unnerving!
Just a tad. lol
Yeah, I’d be freaked out too. Great snippet!
Amy,
Thank you.
You’re doing a great job of building the suspense. This scene really makes me wonder.
Ed,
Thank you. So glad you’re enjoying the story.
That would make my hair stand on end!
Carrie-Anne,
lol- yep it would.
That was a great way to show his supernatural status. Love how he apologises, too.
Great scene and certainly racking up the suspense! I don’t blame her for being confused!
I think I would have peed myself if my father appeared from nowhere, then shit myself if he disappeared in a blink. Great scene. 🙂
Jennifer,
You made me chuckle. 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the scene.
Neat way to have her discover he is the ghost of her dad. I can relate to her feelings. I want tangible proof ad I want things to make sense.lol
Me too.
Oh yeah, that would do it. See through him AND he disappears. Eep! Great snippet, Karen.
