She’d known Tim since the fourth grade—their parents had been longtime friends—but she only recently started dating him. They hadn’t even slept together yet, but the way Tim’s hands slid over her body the other night, and the way he kissed her with teeth, tongue and lips, she’d been considering the tumble into bed. That is until he bit her neck, drawing blood. His impromptu hickey put a damper on the mood. He was apologetic, but remained on edge. If she didn’t know better, she’d say he was strung out on drugs, but Tim was straight laced as they come. He didn’t even take over the counter meds if he could help it.
He told her he thought he was coming down with something. Said his brother and sister were ill and had stayed home tucked in bed for a better part of a week.
Tim ended up going home early, which despite his weird behavior, she was disappointed.

I’m sure Sloane would have preferred the flowers over the impromptu hickey. Especially if it turns out to be much more than just a small mark on her neck.
Have a happy Valentine’s Day, and beware of nibbling Valentine sweethearts. lol

I think that would put a damper on anyone’s mood!
PT,
It would for me. lol
” That is until he bit her neck,” …yeah that kinda is …. weird? interesting explanation on his behave. surprised she was disappointed, can’t wait to read the next part.
Iris,
She’s confused by his behavior and perhaps Tim was a little confused himself as to why he’s having strange urges– like biting his girlfriend’s neck.
Uh oh! Oh man, vampirism going round like the flu. Not good…
Teresa,
Or so they believe…
Oh what fun, Karen. Love this story-because it is a story, right?
Charmaine,
Thanks so much. Yep, it is one heck of a story. lol
Sounds like more than your average love bite. Great snippet, Karen.
Jess,
So much more.
Oh poor Sloane, on various levels. I do like the comparison of vampirism being almost like a flu! Great snippet, inventive story going on.
Veronica,
Glad you’re enjoying the story.
Glad we finally get to meet Sloane, and way to spread the vampire epidemic!
Christina,
Thanks so much.
Yeah on edge is a good way to describe the hunger. Great snippet, Karen. 🙂
Siobhan,
Thank you. 🙂
Sorry sweetie, that wasn’t a hickey. I’m looking forward to next week to see that bite was enough to turn her. 🙂
Jennifer,
lol– She’ll soon realize.
I love this scene! Being bitten on the neck would kill anyone’s mood.
Carrie-Anne,
Yes, it would put a damper on things,
Coming down sick would put a damper on anyone’s date.
Ed,
Nothing romantic about being sick. lol
Hey, at least she knows something weird is up! That gives her better odds, right? Hopefully that means if and when the others find her she won’t be so disbelieving. Good insight in the story.
Strange illness going around… maybe with anemia as one of the symptoms? 😛
Caitlin,
Sloane isn’t feeling well and she has no other way of explaining the symptoms. She knows her boyfriend hadn’t been well and he seemed to think it was a flu also. Sloane is about to find out Tim didn’t give her the flu but something far worse.
Definitely not the kind of sickness I would want to catch. Great snippet!
Nice meeting Sloane! Looking forward to finding out how that “hickey” affects her.
Poor girl… I think she going to have a really big shock soon.
It looks like it wasn’t Tim’s fault if he became a vampire. Poor Tim, I think he was even trying to help her not become one by running away. So sad for their love story.
Linda,
You’re right about Tim. It’s not his fault he was changed, but since the vampire that bit him is from a sept that allows the bloodlust to rule, the change brings out the very worse in the human. Tim doesn’t have a chance.
