Welcome to Snippet Sunday.
If you missed the last weeks snippet from The Gryphon & His Thief, here’s the link.
Set up for this week: We’re jumping ahead to Chapter 5 and Calli’s POV. Quite a few things have happened, but here’s the short update.
Darrien will not leave Calli alone. So she changes tactics. She returns Darrien’s kisses and manages to maneuver him to the bed and handcuff him to the headboard. (She has all kinds of nifty tools and weapons. lol) Not that she isn’t affected by Darrien’s caresses, but her goal tonight is to retrieve the stone. Done. Everything else is simply irrelevant. Or so she tells herself as she thinks about those stolen caresses…

“You cannot take the artifact,” he said, his voice breaking through her reverie, “it is dangerous,” he added, not pleading or demanding, but simply stating what he believed to be true.
Her gaze met his, curious over his calm approach. She thought he’d be breaking the headboard by now…or turning into the beast, but maybe there wasn’t enough room for him to shift. “I’ve already taken it,” she reminded him, “I just need to deliver it to the rightful owner.”
“I do not know who claims this ownership of something only the gods should have, but if it falls into the wrong hands, it will be the end of mankind.”
“Plu…eeese,” she said, dragging out the word for effect, “do you expect me to really consider your claims of doom?”
“Consider this, Callista… Calli,” he corrected, “you stole the stone from the Museum of Cursed Antiquities. Can you not consider the possibility that an unsavory sort wants the stone for their own personal evil deeds?”
***********************************************************
Will Calli believe his claims of doom? We shall see…
Thanks for stopping by!
Until next week, take care.

Some Treasures are Priceless…
A long time ago, a Gryphon shifter’s duty was to guard and protect the people of the tribes, but Darrien Andros failed to keep his human wife safe from harm. Cursed for the crime, he must guard everything in the Museum of Cursed Antiquities forever, never to truly live and never to die. Centuries have passed, but when he encounters a thief, who uncannily resembles his dead wife, he is convinced he has a second chance.
Calli Angelis is hired to steal Hecate’s Stone from the Museum, believing she would be returning it to its rightful owner. She never really trusted the person who hired her and now Darrien makes her doubt her motives, too. He also has her questioning the possibility of reincarnation when the attraction between them ignites into something she can no longer ignore.
As the two work together to unravel the mysteries behind the stone, it becomes apparent an old and dangerous enemy from Darrien’s past is determined to have history repeat itself.

I think she’d be wise to consider his words, especially after he showed her the beastie (at least convinced her of it). Great snippet, Karen. 🙂
Siobhan,
So very true. 🙂
Oh, being so dismissive of his warning is going to come back to bite her! 🙂 Good 8, Karen. Intriguing!
Teresa,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet.
Well, he does have a point…
She is certainly tempting the fates, but it’s obvious she only thinks the fears surrounding the stone are superstitions. Even being handcuffed to the headboard, he is definitely focused on saving mankind.
Chelle,
He must keep all of the cursed items from the museum safe from others. He’s doing his job or at the very least trying to. lol
Great snippet. I like his reasoning!
Thanks, Iris. 🙂
Great snippet. I like Calli, but she’s not going to listen to his warning, I have the feeling.
Thanks so much, Nancy!
He has a point, there. 😀
“Cursed antiquities” seem to mean “cursed for everyone but the person holding it”. Awesome!
With a very few words, you pull us right into the scene. Nice snippet!
You’ve handled the paranormal elements so well it seemed perfectly believable that he’s a gryphon, and well, she’s a thief and his long lost love.
Gem,
Thanks so much for the lovely compliment. 🙂
Wow, cursed antiquities, that sounds exciting! At the same time, with a Gryphon guarding it, she should maybe reconsider.
Linda,
She should at least consider his words. lol
Nothing short of wonderful. What a story. TBR!!!!!!!!!!!
Charmaine,
Thank you! So glad you’re enjoying the snippets. 🙂
his last line makes perfect sense to NOT steal it. but what would the fun be in that. 🙂
He has a point. Calli needs to get her head straight and start believing this guy.
Sounds like an intense moment, and I’m dying to know how she responds. He has a point. Terrific eight. 🙂
Now if she was me, the second he told me I couldn’t take, it would go into my pocket. I’ve always been a fan of tempting fate. Great snippet, Karen!
Wait, she stole something from a place with Cursed in the name? Sharp knife, wrong drawer! 😀
Intriguing snippet! I’m curious to see if she trusts Darrien enough to believe him. Great 8.
Without something more, I don’t think she’s buying his story. I do like both of these characters.
Callie seems a little naive here…and I’m wondering why he hasn’t shifted…so, an intriguing excerpt! What will it take to persuade her of the dangers?
That’s a warning not to be taken lightly! They both hold their ground really well, even under these circumstances.
Yep, she would be wise to listen. 🙂
Interesting! But I think she’d better start listening to him. Cursed objects can be dangerous. 🙂
Dianne,
I have to agree. lol
The Museum of Cursed Antiquities… that should tell her something right there 😉 Nice interaction between your characters.
Jeff,
I’m so glad you enjoyed the snippet. 🙂
Museum of Cursed Antiquities? And she didn’t think maybe the thing would be bad news? Calli must not believe in the supernatural.
Kate,
She suspects there is the supernatural, but since she’s never come face to face with it… Well, seeing is believing in her case. lol
