If you missed the last weeks snippet from
The Gryphon & His Thief, here’s the link.
Set up for this week: Most humans cannot perceive the Otherworldly realm, but Darrien cloaks his true self as he searches for Calli. He must hurry. Once the sun rises, he’ll turn to stone.
This scene is in Darrien’s POV.

Right now, he wanted to remain invisible and not give proof to his existence. He’d seen videos on the curator’s computer. The hunt for the Loch Ness Monster and Big Foot were the biggest hits. Shifting to his beastie side was a personal moment he wished not to share with the world. The mortals lacking imagination would not understand and what they did not perceive as normal, they tended to hunt down and destroy. No, thank you, Zeus on high; he preferred the shadows.
He used his back paws to push off the ground, catapulting himself high enough for his wings to catch the wind and to send him soaring even higher toward the heavens. His eyesight proved as keen as an eagle’s, his wings as strong and sure as they supported his massive body high above the ground so he could search for Calli’s vehicle.

Gryphons are for real. Bet that video would go viral.
Until next week, take care.

Some Treasures are Priceless…
A long time ago, a Gryphon shifter’s duty was to guard and protect the people of the tribes, but Darrien Andros failed to keep his human wife safe from harm. Cursed for the crime, he must guard everything in the Museum of Cursed Antiquities forever, never to truly live and never to die. Centuries have passed, but when he encounters a thief, who uncannily resembles his dead wife, he is convinced he has a second chance.
Calli Angelis is hired to steal Hecate’s Stone from the Museum, believing she would be returning it to its rightful owner. She never really trusted the person who hired her and now Darrien makes her doubt her motives, too. He also has her questioning the possibility of reincarnation when the attraction between them ignites into something she can no longer ignore.
As the two work together to unravel the mysteries behind the stone, it becomes apparent an old and dangerous enemy from Darrien’s past is determined to have history repeat itself.

I love the description in this line:
“He used his back paws to push off the ground, catapulting himself high enough for his wings to catch the wind and to send him soaring even higher toward the heavens.”
(I also loved that he was watching videos on the curator’s computer.)
PT,
So glad you liked the visual. 🙂
“The mortals lacking imagination …” great sentence and so true in many ways. Great snippet this week Karen.
Iris,
Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed the snippet.
Great descriptive words. He sounds powerful. It’s interesting that he is so wary of being in the public as a beastie.
Chelle,
No matter how powerful, we all have fears. 🙂
Great bit of character-building with that great look inside his thoughts. Outstanding description of him taking flight. Dang! I was right there with him. 🙂
Teresa,
So glad you could take flight with him. 🙂
He is pretty stubborn. That’s so funny.
Linda,
Stubborn is right.
He makes a good point. 🙂
His moment of flight is beautifully written, Karen.
Sarah W,

I love the description of him. Ya if they were real that would be pretty awesome.

Wouldn’t it be? 🙂
Excellent weaving of his mythical side and the modern day, with that viral video concern. Loved the description of him launching into flight. Great 8!

Beware the gryphon on the hunt. Great snippet, Karen. 🙂
Your description of his wings catching the wind to lift him into flight makes me want to fly with him. Awesome snippet.
Gem,
So glad you enjoyed the flight. lol
The one thing he doesn’t worry about is radar. I wonder if he shows up on it?
Edward,
I never thought about radar… hmm, a very good question indeed. Perhaps, he does. Just another UFO (unexplained flying object) hee hee.
Breathtaking description of the gryphon’s flight. Beautiful writing, Karen, of this fanciful tale.
Charmaine,
So thrilled you enjoyed the snippet!
I’m doing a book review for you. I can’t wait to get started on this.
Elaine,
I’m excited and nervous as I anxiously await your review. 🙂
Great scene. 🙂
Jennifer,
Thanks. 🙂
I love the line about mortals lacking imagination. It’s so true not everyone has the same normal, and that people often react with fear and hatred towards what they can’t understand or relate to.
Carrie-Anne,
It is all too true. Fear of the unknown. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by.
You had me at Loch Ness Monster… with Bigfoot thrown in for the win. Nice 8.
lol– I do love those monsters of legend. 🙂
