“I miss playing but not the hectic schedules.”
“Do you keep in touch with any of the band members?” she asked and he involuntarily tensed at the question.
“We parted company and that was that. I was closest to Stevie even though we didn’t part on great terms, but since then we’ve mended our differences in a sense.” He paused but then added, “I see him once in a while.”
“Does he still play?”
He shook his head and licked his lips. It wasn’t often that he spoke about his bandmate. “Stevie isn’t doing much of anything anymore.” He glanced at her and wasn’t surprised to see her brows were furrowed.

I wanted to be a musician when I was younger. Sadly, I have all the talent of a dead horse. However, from what I’ve read many times over the years, it is a very difficult business to be in and has destroyed many very talented but also very sensitive people.
I think there is a lot more to the story of what happened to the band. Intriguing!

Seems we’re treading onto sensitive territory for him here…with much to be revealed! Definitely a snippet that makes me want to keep reading onward. Enjoyed the excerpt!
Sounds like there’s a lot more to the story of him and Stevie. More tension arising. But Maverick and Rowan seem to be hitting it off much better! Nice snippet!

So many unanswered questions. And beautifully portrayed emotions — understated and tense/sober.
It seems like he still cares about Stevie.
With the way he’s talking, I’m kinda half-expecting Stevie to be dead. I really hope I’m wrong, but with that tone, the alternatives don’t seem any more promising.
