Setup for this snippet: WIP from Heart and Soul. This is a snippet from my new ‘rock star romance’ that I’m working on. It’s in the very early stages.
Rowan watched a video of the band Maverick used to play in.
Maverick’s POV. Rowan is speaking first.

“Why did you leave the band?” Rowan asked as she reached for her coffee mug.
“Fields fired me.”
Rowan’s right eyebrow lifted a fraction as she let out a half chuckled. “He fired you?”
“He didn’t like me telling him he was an ugly drunk and should check himself into rehab. I probably didn’t say it as nicely as that, but hey…” he said with a shrug. “After I left, the band lasted another tour, and the next album bombed big time. It all ended when Fields decided to tell a reporter, who was interviewing the band, to go f**k himself on live TV. Kind of pissed off a few people.”
“I can imagine.”

Love to hear your feed back. 🙂
About Heart and Soul…
80s rock star, Haley Rose went missing without a trace on October 31 1988 and was eventually presumed dead. Three decades later, a thirty-year old woman, Rowan Beckett recalls things only Haley Rose would know and she can belt out songs in the same fashion as the missing 80s star. However, Rowan couldn’t be the missing rock star since the woman would now be in her fifties. Could Haley Rose have came back reincarnated as Rowan Beckett?

Good thing Maverick was out before the collapse of the band.
Jessica,
He probably didn’t think so at the time but now he’s glad.
Dynamite, Karen. Absolutely like real life and oh so comical.
Charmaine,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet.
oh yeah, that live TV potty-mouth will do it every time. 🙂
Little by little they’re figuring each other out.
Teresa,
The media can break or make you.
Sounds as if he grew up and his bandmate didn’t. Maturity happens and he went with it for the better. Good piece of character reveal.
Yup, when you say what you’re thinking you can get yourself into a whole heap of trouble.
Nicely done.
Sue,
So very true.
Well he was probably better off to be out of that train wreck of a band anyway! I’m thoroughly enjoying all this backstory – really a terrific excerpt.
Sounds like Maverick got out in time, even if it wasn’t his choice!
Christina,
He definitely is in a better place now.
Realistic description. A good man who pulled out before things really collapsed.
Aurora,
I’m glad you think so.
Was he, by implication, the creative heart and soul of the band? I’m willing to believe that.
Ed,
lol- I guess, he was. 🙂
Maverick clearly did the right thing. Good on him! Love this guy more and more…
Amy,
I’m so glad you’re liking him.
I wonder if he’d said it nicer, if Fields would have listened? Probably not.
Caitlyn,
Probably not. 🙂
Fields sounds like an absolute sweetheart.
Not.
lol- Not is right.
Sounds a bit like Karma as Fields isn’t taking good advice.
Sounds like he got out just in time. Working with a drunk sucks, no matter what your occupation. Enjoying the back story.
He obviously left at the right time, another really enjoyable snippet!
