Setup for this snippet: WIP from Heart and Soul. This is a snippet from my new ‘rock star romance’ that I’m working on. It’s in the very early stages.
This week:
Chatting at breakfast
Maverick’s POV.
***
“The coffee’s good,” she told him.
He took a sip from his cup. “How did you sleep?” he asked over the rim of his mug. “It’s a new place and I know sometimes it can take getting used to.”
“I slept well,” she replied and placed her cup down on the bar. “How long have you owned this place?” she purposely changed the subject, but he didn’t question her.
“Going on five years now,” he told her as he watched her closely. She glanced around the place as she ate her breakfast. There were plenty of photos on the wall of various musicians. Some had headlined here in the past, others were of bands he liked or he knew the band members personally.

Love to hear your feed back. ๐
About Heart and Soul…
80s rock star, Haley Rose went missing without a trace on October 31 1988 and was eventually presumed dead. Three decades later, a thirty-year old woman, Rowan Beckett recalls things only Haley Rose would know and she can belt out songs in the same fashion as the missing 80s star. However, Rowan couldn’t be the missing rock star since the woman would now be in her fifties. Could Haley Rose have came back reincarnated as Rowan Beckett?

Hmm… I wonder why she changed the subject? ๐
Teresa,
She didn’t sleep well. She had a dream. (A few snippets ago.)
Wonder why she avoided the sleep question. Another great snippet.
Iris,
She probably doesn’t want to share her restless night of dreams.
Definitely an intriguing snippet!
Jessica,
Thank you.
A little bit of cat and mouse happening here. I wonder where all this ‘hedging’ will lead?
Sue,
Time will tell. ๐
Given the dreams she has of the musician’s life, I wonder if she’ll find something on the walls that will trigger something.
Ed,
She just might.
The trigger is where this goes so hang on to your hats as the story heats up. Fascinating, Karen.
Charmaine,
Just wait and read on. ๐ Thank you.
Does she know the place?
Aurora,
Yes, she does but only from photos of the past and before it became the Heart and Soul.
I’d love to hear more of their conversation!
Soon you will.
She’s got secrets she doesn’t even know she’s hiding. But something in this place–or him–will surely jar a memory loose!
Caitlin,
It will eventually.
I wonder if or when she’ll admit she’s been having those restless dreams. I also wonder if seeing those photos will trigger more dreams.
Sorry to be so late commenting, was on a tight deadline for a book! I’m carried along with great enjoyment in the story by your description and their conversation, as always. (I wish I could visit this place, you make it sound so appealing!) Great snippet…
Thank you so much, Veronica. So glad you’re enjoying the snippets. ๐
I love places decorated like that! So much to look at.
