Setup for this snippet: WIP from Heart and Soul. This is a snippet from my new ‘rock star romance’ that I’m working on. It’s in the very early stages.
This week:
In the morning..
Maverick’s POV.
***
After his morning run and a shower, Maverick headed downstairs to the coffeehouse and made enough scrambled eggs for two, fried the hash browns to a golden brown, and brewed a fresh pot of coffee. Just as he finished slathering the butter and strawberry jam on the toast, his new employee had ventured downstairs from her apartment and entered the Heart and Soul through the front door.
“Good morning,” he called out to Rowan through the cutout kitchen window that they used to pass plates back and forth when the coffeehouse was open for business.
“Good morning,” she called back to him.
“Take a seat at the bar; I’ll be out front in just a sec.” Good to his word, he made his way to the front and placed a plate in front of her and a cup of coffee next. “Cream and sugar?” he asked.
“Sugar,” she answered, and he leaned down behind the counter to retrieve a cup filled with sugar packets, both regular and sugar substitutes.
She chose a regular sugar packet. She was holding the cup to her lips when he returned from the kitchen with his breakfast and coffee mug.

Love to hear your feed back. π
About Heart and Soul…
80s rock star, Haley Rose went missing without a trace on October 31 1988 and was eventually presumed dead. Three decades later, a thirty-year old woman, Rowan Beckett recalls things only Haley Rose would know and she can belt out songs in the same fashion as the missing 80s star. However, Rowan couldn’t be the missing rock star since the woman would now be in her fifties. Could Haley Rose have came back reincarnated as Rowan Beckett?

Great. I now want breakfast. (It’s 3:30 in the morning and I’m at work and am now dying for hash browns.)
PT,
lol- So glad you enjoyed the snippet. Sorry about giving you the munchies. π
They interact only minimally, yet, I get a sense of them bonding over via the sensory food imagery.
Ed,
Bonding over a good meal is always a good place to start. π
Now I want breakfast! I can smell that coffee . . . back in a minute. Ahhhh! Better. Nice relaxed scene between them, Karen.
Nancy,
I don’t know about you but I read about coffee brewing and want a cup. lol
Just a regular morning – they seem comfortable together.
Aurora,
So far they are. π
Delicious snippet. Karen, I was right in the scene with your well-written characters.
Charmaine,
Thank you.
My feedback is like so many others – now I want breakfast, only hash browns will do…and it’s late afternoon!!! Darn you and your wonderful, descriptive writing abilities LOL! I love the way you can make the simplest scenes vivid and powerful.
Veronica,
lol- Hope you were able to enjoy those hashbrowns.
Omg, based on that breakfast, I want to marry this man right now!
Christina,
lol- I love a man that can cook.
It’s bedtime and I want breakfast! lol I so agree with everything Veronica said. π
Since I made everyone hungry, we should go out to breakfast. lol
Sounds like a great breakfast!
I’d enjoy it. π
I’m with everyone else… now I want breakfast! Love how easy they seem with each other right now. Just a comfortable meal together. π
Your image for this post is so good. I’ll take some hashbrowns and coffee, please. π
Really his gesture of making breakfast for two is so sweet. And your descriptions are great!
Siren,
Thank you so much.
I’m up for breakfast any time. LOL Such a simple scene yet touches on the senses in a great way.
This snippet made me hungry. And any man who who’ll get up and make the coffee gets points from me!
He sounds like a real treasure! As others have said, such a simple scene but somehow it shows how the chemistry between these two is developing!
I like that he’s made her breakfast as well … hope the conversation will flow soon, though …
