Jewel covered her mouth, trying not to giggle. She could well imagine Stanfield’s eyes turning dark and dangerous. The man may indeed be a fool, but he didn’t like being called on it.
“Now, kindly leave,” her impromptu champion demanded and left no room for negotiation. “And kindly close the door behind you…before I forget my manners.”
“Uh…sure,” Stanfield stammered as he backed up. “I’ll leave you to…uh…I’ll leave.” He quickly departed, closing the door behind him. Nash placed the gun on the nightstand beside the bed and turned his attention back to her. Her heart hammered in her chest, beating like a trapped bird trying to escape.
