Enjoy a snippet from RODEO BLUES. Feedback is always appreciated.
If you’re interested in last week’s snippet of Rodeo Blues here you go: Chapter 3, snippet 5
Snippet: This takes place a few paragraphs later from last week. Inside Big Bob’s Saloon, Tye spots Sonny and Mike (friends from his youth) by the stage, setting up their band equipment. He hasn’t spoken to them in ten years, and isn’t sure how they’ll react to his return. Tye decides it’s time to find out.
This is in Tye’s POV.

“Hey, boys.” Tye said in greeting. Both men turned toward him in unison. Mike was the first to recognize him and let out a whooping yell of greeting before he grabbed hold of him and pounded his back.
Tye stood six-two, Mike was two inches taller and solid muscle. He’d forgotten how strong Mike was and had to catch his balance after his friendly how-do-you-do of a welcome.
Sonny offered a handshake. “Hey Casper, thought we heard the last of you when you skedaddled out of here to ride them bulls.”
“I told you I’d be back.”
Sonny’s dark brows rose. “Didn’t realize it would be a decade later.”

Seems like Mike has no trouble with Tye’s return, but what about Sonny? Seem a little standoffish to you?
Hope you enjoyed the snippet.

Eight Seconds to Lose the Girl…
One chance to win her back.
Tye Casper, a.k.a. the Ghost Rider and champion bull rider, should be the happiest cowboy alive, but when he left home ten years ago to make it big, he said goodbye to the only woman he has ever loved. He’s had his eight seconds of glory, but without Jolie Lockhart by his side, the wins mean nothing.
He’s been given an opportunity to return home to Skeeter Blue for one last rodeo. He believes fate has sent him there and he’ll have a second chance with Jolie, but nothing goes as planned. He soon realizes staying seated on a bull for eight seconds may prove much simpler than winning Jolie’s heart.

Hasn’t Sonny ever heard of “Better late than never?” Sheesh.
Ed,
lol– Guess he hasn’t.
Ten years is a long time. This scene is a good sketch of the kind of camaraderie that builds between people who do dangerous things together. Nice work.
Jeff,
Thanks so much. The boys do have history.
skedaddled ??? LOL
Nice little welcome from his friends.
Iris,
Well, he did leave suddenly and didn’t return for 10 years. lol
It seems that a lot of people were angry when he left town ten years ago. Maybe he stepped on a few toes before he left?
Elaine,
He left and didn’t stay in contact with even his closest friends. So there’s probably more hurt feelings, confusion, and perhaps they wondered why he dropped off the face of the earth without so much as a goodbye.
Wonderful and so typical. They take everything in stride, business as usual. Well written.
Charmaine,
For Mike, it’s as if time has stood still. He never misses a beat and accepts Tye as is. He was gone, but now he’s here.
Sonny is a little slower to welcome Tye home. He’d like an explanation for the disappearing act.
Excellent excerpt, am enjoying the way different people are reacting to his return home after so long.
Hmm…lots can change in ten years, and I bet it makes for an interesting story. 🙂 Good 8, Karen. 🙂
Love the dialogue between them. Ten years is a pretty long time, but that’s okay.
Great snippet.
I love the contrast between the two — and the description of Mike’s greeting is awesome!
Love the use of skedaddled in there! I’m waiting for Tye to have some witty response to the decade later comment of Sonny. Mike seems like a really energetic, mischievous, ready-for-anything kind of guy to me already.
I can understand the decade. Sometimes you get away and then the time flies really fast.
Sonny’s response was certainly icier than Mike’s – makes me also wonder if there was something between Sonny and Jolie with Tye out of the picture?
Ten years is by no means soon at all to be back! By then, most people would no longer be waiting.
