This week another snippet from my new release, RODEO BLUES!
If you’re interested in last week’s snippet of Rodeo Blues here you go: Chapter Two, Snippet One
Snippet: Rodeo Blues, Chapter Three, snippet one. Tye heads over the Big Bob’s Saloon. He’s a bit nervous to meet old friends… (Tye’s POV.)

The neon sign, with a cowpoke kicking his spurs together and waving his hat, stood over the entrance as a welcome to the establishment. He wondered who would be there tonight, and how they would respond to his return. He hadn’t really kept in touch with anyone in Skeeter Blue, and he’d never been any good at writing, or picking up a phone, for that matter.
As he approached, he spotted a familiar face working the front door. “Hey Sam,” he said with a grin, “haven’t they hauled your ol’ carcass out of here yet?”
The old man turned toward him. He gave him a once over and for a moment he didn’t think Sam recognized him, but then a smile creased his lips. “Well, I’ll be damned; look what the cat dragged in.” He rose from his stool and held out his hand. “Tye Casper, when did you roll into town?”

Wonder who else Tye will meet tonight. 🙂
Hope you enjoyed the snippet.

Blurb:
Eight Seconds to Lose the Girl…
One chance to win her back.
Tye Casper, a.k.a. the Ghost Rider and champion bull rider, should be the happiest cowboy alive, but when he left home ten years ago to make it big, he said goodbye to the only woman he has ever loved. He’s had his eight seconds of glory, but without Jolie Lockhart by his side, the wins mean nothing.
He’s been given an opportunity to return home to Skeeter Blue for one last rodeo. He believes fate has sent him there and he’ll have a second chance with Jolie, but nothing goes as planned. He soon realizes staying seated on a bull for eight seconds may prove much simpler than winning Jolie’s heart.

Great dialogue and description. I want to see that sign with the cowboy clicking his spurs together. (Speaking of someone who once crouched down while wearing boots and spurs, and stood up to find my spurs locked together, nearly sending me to the floor.)
Good things it’s only a sign. lol I hope you didn’t hurt yourself.
Seems the reaction to his return to town went a lot better than he was expecting; great tension waiting to find that out.
Chelle,
That’s only one person. We’ll see what the others feel about his return. 🙂
I she’ll listen to Whisper, she sounds like a woman with lots of wisdom
Iris,
Hopefully she will.
Sounds like the first contact went okay. Great snippet, Karen. 🙂
One down… the others may not be so forgiving of him disappearing without a word, but then maybe they’ll be happy he finally came to his senses. lol
Now to see how others feel about his return. I thought this section was very realistic and well done.
Thanks, Elaine. I’m glad it felt real. 🙂
I’m like Tye, I’m the world’s worst about keeping in touch with people. I feel his hesitation. Great snippet. 🙂
Jennifer,
Thanks so much.
It seems like a good portent for his return to town. He probably got himself worried for nothing, and made it more terrifying in his mind because he put it off for so long.
Carrie-Anne,
You are so right. 🙂
The scene is very vivid and I’m fascinated by this return to the old stomping grounds. Excellent snippet!
I think someone is coming back 🙂
Nicely constructed scene. The opening, with the sign draws the reader in with a strong visual image and I like how you create an uncertain feeling before showing us someone familiar to the character.
Perfect imagery in the scene, I could picture that sign. I love the line that Sam said to him when he realized it was him. Great snippet.
