NOOK
Set up for the scene: Michaela agrees to let Alan and Hyatt give her a tour of the loch so she can search for the legendary Loch Ness Monster. As Hyatt and Michaela conversed, Alan realizes Michaela is not feeling well. He’s slows the boat to a stop, asking Hyatt to take over. Alan uses his ‘magic hands’ to ease her headache and offers her a bottle of water, insisting she drink. Alan gives Michaela the ‘well’ water and Hyatt voices his concern, which Alan smugly ignores. They’ve arrived in front of Castle Urquhart where most of the sightings of the Loch Ness Monster have been. Alan goes on to describe the ancient castle in loving detail.

“At one time, it must have been breathtaking.”
“Aye, indeed it was.”
Her gaze riveted to his and her perfect ruddy brows arched. “You say it as though you know firsthand.”
Alan shrugged and said, “If ye live in these parts long enough, the past and the present begin to merge together as one.”
Her gaze absorbed the wonderment around her, making her green eyes shimmer with warmth, and without a doubt he knew she understood perfectly what he meant.
Her lips curved. “If you don’t mind me asking, do you both believe Nessie is real?

Good question, Karen! How was he so informed about the past, and I love his answer. This sounds like a good book. I’ve always been fascinated with Scottish castles and with the Loch Ness monster, having a wee bit of the Scot in me.
Denise,
I’m glad you’re intrigued. 🙂 I love the Scottish lore, castle and well…just about everything. lol
She’s getting closer to the point now! I can’t wait to see what they’re going to reply…
Karen,
I think you’ll enjoy the answer. lol
Very atmospheric. I’m coming to the story late, but this snippet drew me in.
Gem,
So glad the snippet intrigued you. 🙂
Alan’s had several centuries to get his evasive answers down pat, hasn’t he? But I can’t wait for their reactions to this one!
“Well . . . “
Sarah,
Alan has had plenty of time. lol Tune in next week for his response.
ha! I can’t wait to hear his response to that. 😉 Terrific snippet!
Joanne,
Thanks so much. Stop by next week for the response!
I LOVE Alan’s response! I have this one on my Kindle and just haven’t been able to read it yet. I NEED MORE HOURS!
Sarah,
So glad you liked the snippet. Thanks for purchasing Magic of the Loch! I know what you mean about time. I have so many books loaded to my Kindle, but no time to read them. lol One day…
😀 I think I can hear the pin drop, lol. Definitely looking forward to next week.
S. J.,
Thanks so much for stopping by. The laddies have a good answer for her. 🙂
Oh, let’s see if they tap dance around that question. I like that she asked them straight out. A direct woman, gal after my own heart!
Michaela is direct. So glad you like that. 🙂
Very fun, looking forward to the reply!
Lovely and lovely foreshadowing, I suspect. “If ye live in these parts long enough, the past and the present begin to merge together as one.” Very nice
I agree with Alan about the past and present merging together in particularly history-rich places. I wonder how he’ll respond to her direct question about Nessie’s existence.
Carrie-Anne,
I agree, history-rich places are like that. 🙂 Tune in next week for Alan’s response.
I would like to see what she sees, but maybe it will come. Too bad I won’t be around next week to get the answer to the question I’ve always wondered about: is the Loch Ness Moster real? I’ve always believed it is, but I’m a bit naive. Watched The Life Of Pi and believed every word. So why not the Monster!
Rayne,
I liked The Life of Pi, too. 🙂 I don’t delete the posts so perhaps you can check out the Alan’s answer another time. 🙂
Can’t wait to hear the answer! I loved his comment about past and present merging…excellent excerpt!
Veronica,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet!
Oh, ho-ho, what a great set up for Alan! I love it, Karen. Nicely done. 🙂
Siobhan,
Thanks so much. Stop by and see what Alan will say.
Oh what the heck will they answer to that huh? Happy to say I finished my other book so I can start this one!
History Sleuth’s Milk Carton Murders
Cindy,
Cool! I hope you love the tale!
Alan has better be careful, she is going to notice every little tongue slip.
And good question really.
I am going to finish this, once I get done with this dratted chemo.
This is going to be interesting!
P.T.,
Won’t it though? lol
I’m intrigued! Love stories set in the British Isles. Great snippet!
Martha,
So glad yo enjoyed the snippet!
I started it this morning. read it at lunch at work, waiting for dinner, etc. I want you to know my dryer stopped 30 minutes ago and I haven’t gone up to change it. I’m still reading. Just thought you’d like to know if my husband can’t find socks in the morning I’m telling him it’s your fault.:)
I didn’t realize there was also a mystery involved. I was so excited!
Cindy,
I’m so thrilled you’re liking the story. 🙂 Apologize to your husband for me. lol
And I’m done. Haven’t read a book in 24 hours in a while, well, I slept too. A great read.
So glad you enjoyed the tale! Thanks for letting me know, too. That means so much!
