Set up for the scene: Michaela agrees to let Alan and Hyatt give her a tour of the loch so she can search for the legendary Loch Ness Monster. They’ve arrived in front of Castle Urquhart where most of the sightings of the Loch Ness Monster have been. Alan goes on to describe the ancient castle in loving detail. Michaela pops the question: “If you don’t mind me asking, do you both believe Nessie is real? Here’s the laddies’ response…

Now for the snippet: (Alan’s POV)
Alan briefly met Hyatt’s gaze before answering her. “I suppose, we do. People need to believe in somethin’ or else what’s the use in livin’?”
She laughed with her mouth and eyes, transforming her face into pure sunlight that warmed him from the inside out. Dear gods, what pull did this woman have on him?
“And what makes ye so sure the creature is a lassie?” Hyatt piped up.
“Maybe all these years, the pictures are of Nester and not of Nessie.”
“Doesnae have the same ring to it, does it now?” Hyatt said, wrinkling his nose in disgust.

Doesn’t sound like Hyatt likes the being known as Nester, the Loch Ness Monster. lol So did the Laddies answer the question well enough?
Find out next week with more of Alan’s POV.

Good description of her reaction and love the idea inserted in this line. “Maybe… Nester and not of Nessie.”
Gem,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet. 🙂
His first bit of dialogue in this snippet rings so true. Great job, Karen!
Thanks, Jess. 🙂
Nester is a perfectly acceptable combo of Ness and Monster–works for me!
(though between you and me, outside of this excellent story, I doubt that a male lake monster would have been bright enough to survive this long. 😉 )
Sarah,
You might just be right. However, Magic of the Loch is a fantasy… lol
Excellent snippet. Does what it is supposed to do. Make you want to read more!

Thanks so much. So glad you enjoyed the snippet!
Great snippet, as always. Is she going to get to see Nessie… er… Nester… er… The Loch Ness Monster before the book ends?
Oh, you can count on it. 🙂
It’s so hard to skirt the truth without outright lying. Nicely done snippet, Karen. 😀
“She laughed with her mouth and her eyes…” That whole sentence is absolutely fantastic! Another great snippet, Karen!
This is so much fun! Another delightful eight!
Nester, that’s funny! Love this story. 🙂

Hyatt shouldn’t have interrupted, or is it his turn to be jealous?
