Twirl and Dip (WIP) Drake’s POV
He glanced in the mirror. He looked tired. Were those bags under his eyes going to permanent? He sat back in his seat with a heavy sigh. He wore a black tee and leather vest. His black jeans sported a worn-in look even though they were brand new, and his black combat boots finished off his rock star attire. He liked the clothes, but he longed to wear a pair of blue jeans and tennis shoes.
Another rap tap-tap on the door had him on his feet. “I’ll be right there,” he yelled back, knowing they were getting impatient. His eyes shifted to the container once again with ice cream cone bits, and he had an idea of what he wanted to do, but first, he had to go on stage and give the audience a performance they wouldn’t soon forget.
Possible Blurb:
Eastyn has her soda shop to run and specialty ice creams to create. Only the place is falling apart, and she may have a haunted jukebox that chooses songs to communicate. If things couldn’t get any more complicated, Drake, her ex-fiancé, returns home after five years on the road with his rock band, Never Mind the Damage.
Eastyn vows not to fall for Drake’s charms again, but when you have a lifetime of memories with the man, the heart seems not to care about pledges. Her haunted jukebox believes choosing the right song to twirl and dip to is the answer to everything. However, Eastyn isn’t convinced. She wants to know if Drake is home for good, or will he break her heart all over again?

I’m very curious about the significance of the ice cream cone bits.
Jessica,
You’ll see about the ice cream cone bits. Some scents remind you of home.

I always get a kick out of your snippets, my friend.
Charmaine,
I’m glad you do.
interesting perspective into the life of a rock star. and i’m curious, too, re the ice cream.
Iris,
You’ll soon see. 🙂
Poor guy – bags under his eyes. This rock star needs a break.
Yes, he does.
You give us real insights to our hero . . . and I like him! Pet peeve: paragraph 2 – “He” can look, but “His eyes” can’t. Unless disembodied in a horror scene.
Nancy,
I’ll take a look at that.
Sounds like he really is tired of life on the road. Are the ice cream cone bits a hint of where his true feeling lie?
Yes, the ice cream bits are a hint of where his true feelings lie.
Enjoyed the excerpt, his weariness comes through so clearly. Can’t wait to read more of this story!
Veronica,
I’m glad you’re enjoying the snippets.
You made me feel his exhaustion. He needs to take a break. Since he’s home, I hope he’ll get one.
Diane,
He does need a break.
Great depiction of his feelings of exhaustion. You make even the clothes he’s wearing fit into the overall mood (even though he isn’t wearing overalls!), with their unrelieved black.
Ed,
Thank you so much, Ed. I’m glad you enjoyed the snippet.
It sounds like his lifestyle may be getting to him.
Elaine,
It is at that.
Just goes to show the star lifestyle has its drawbacks. I felt for him when he just wanted to wear jeans and sneakers. Tweeted.
I’m so glad you felt for him. It was what I wanted. 🙂 Thanks for tweeting.
I like how you show us the little details of who he is. Yes a classic rockstar but it seems like he’s wearing the clothes as a uniform and just wants throw on some old jeans and relax (and maybe sleep!).
