Twirl and Dip (WIP) Drake’s POV
“Nice to meet you,” she said. “I’ll let you two catch up. Katie is in the Kitchen helping Spike tend to the last-minute clean-up. I’ll help them finish so they can head out.
“Thanks, hun.”
She sauntered over to what Drake could only assume was the kitchen. He turned toward Maverick. “Would it be all right if I crash at your place tonight? I would have called but… I didn’t know I was heading out of town until tonight.” He sounded like an imbecile with the way he rambled on.
“Did you run away from home?” Maverick teased.
Possible Blurb:
Eastyn has her soda shop to run and specialty ice creams to create. Only the place is falling apart, and she may have a haunted jukebox that chooses songs to communicate. If things couldn’t get any more complicated, Drake, her ex-fiancé, returns home after five years on the road with his rock band, Never Mind the Damage.
Eastyn vows not to fall for Drake’s charms again, but when you have a lifetime of memories with the man, the heart seems not to care about pledges. Her haunted jukebox believes choosing the right song to twirl and dip to is the answer to everything. However, Eastyn isn’t convinced. She wants to know if Drake is home for good, or will he break her heart all over again?

Running away is exactly what he did. But I have a feeling Maverick won’t turn him away.
Will he end up discovering that he’s not running away FROM, but running away TO?
At least he has a place he can crash for the night.
LOL, yes he did, and somehow it sounds funny although it probably is very serious to him.
The depth of their friendship is nicely revealed in this quippy dialogue. Run away from everyone’s expectations maybe . . .
Well he did sort of run away from home…loved the conversation going on here. Terrific snippet!
Is he going to admit it? And what will Maverick think? I have the feeling he’ll be understanding.
Loved Maverick’s last line! But will Drake actually tell him what’s going on? Great snippet!
That last line made me smile. He did run away, of sorts. But I think he’s running away TO home. Good writing!
There’s nothing wrong with running away from home every now and then! I think we all need the occasional breather to figure things out.
Great dialogue here. Most of the impulsive decisions I’ve made have been terrible ones. Hopefully it isn’t the same for Drake.
