Twirl and Dip (WIP) Drake’s POV
He may be tired, but he wouldn’t disappoint the fans who spent good money to see his sorry arse on stage.
He strode over to the door and threw it open. Security was there to escort him safely to where Sam, Wyatt, and Malcolm waited for him. Sam met his gaze, and he nodded he was ready. Sam went on stage first, heading for his kit. Once he started the intro with his drum solo, they would take their spots on stage with Malcolm on bass, and Wyatt on electric guitar. He’d go on last, front and center to belt out the lyrics to the bluesy rock song from their new album.
The roar of the crowd had his blood pumping harder as the adrenaline kicked in like it always did before he performed. He hopped on his feet and shook his hands to limber up so he could dance and run about the stage without pulling a hamstring.
“It’s time,” one of the sound guys told them, and they were on, his feet propelling him toward the microphone waiting for him.
Possible Blurb:
Eastyn has her soda shop to run and specialty ice creams to create. Only the place is falling apart, and she may have a haunted jukebox that chooses songs to communicate. If things couldn’t get any more complicated, Drake, her ex-fiancé, returns home after five years on the road with his rock band, Never Mind the Damage.
Eastyn vows not to fall for Drake’s charms again, but when you have a lifetime of memories with the man, the heart seems not to care about pledges. Her haunted jukebox believes choosing the right song to twirl and dip to is the answer to everything. However, Eastyn isn’t convinced. She wants to know if Drake is home for good, or will he break her heart all over again?

Her dreams were a song from a previous life. To truly live again, she followed the melody home.
80s rock star, Haley Rose, and her boyfriend went missing without a trace on October 31, 1988, and were eventually presumed dead. Three decades later, thirty-year-old, Rowan Beckett, recalls things only Haley Rose would know, and she can belt out songs in the same unique fashion. However, Rowan couldn’t be the missing rock star since Haley would now be in her fifties. Could Haley Rose have come back reincarnated as Rowan Beckett? Or is Rowan as delusional as her family suspects?

you nicely captured the moment just before going on stage.
Iris,
Thank you.
People so often don’t realize that even seasoned performers get that surge of adrenaline before they go out on stage. You’ve captured that moment splendidly.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the moment before the performance. And yes, the performers do get that surge of adrenaline as they prepare to take the stage.
Good realistic details – like the possibility of pulling a hamstring. Does it indicate aging muscles?
Aurora,
Doesn’t indicate aging muscles but an athlete preparing. He’s going to be singing and running about the stage.
I like the building excitement in this snippet, leading up to their performance. Very well done excerpt!
Love the insight into his state of mind. Wonder if he’s really ready to leave all this behind?
I love the detail of the hamstring; makes him seem more human than your average rock star.
Nice description of what he’s going through before he takes the stage. I never really thought about it before. 🙂
Very realistic for a performer about to go on state.
Have you read A Song for a New Day? It won the Nebula award this year, and it seems exactly like your kind of story.
Ed,
No, I haven’t read A Song for a New Day. I’ll have to check it out.
Love the buildup and energy coursing through this scene! well done 🙂
Just like being there with the nerves, warm up and burst of excitement. Nice job!!
