WIP (Eastyn’s POV) Last week we ended with Drake asking Eastyn to turn off the circuit to the sign to her soda shop so he could work on it.
Snippet: Drake is speaking first.
“Just make a list of what you need done,” he called after her, making her glance at him, “and I’ll get to what I can today.”
“I have a list scribbled down in my office. Did it this morning.” She turned to go, but he halted her steps when he spoke again.
“Eastyn?” His voice had lowered an octave.
His hands were in his pockets and his eyes said so much, longing and sorrowful and…unsure. Of her? Of being here? She swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat.
“It’s really great to see you,” he told her, and his voice sounded heavy with emotion but before she could decipher what it meant, he turned and headed back outside.
Possible Blurb:
Eastyn has her soda shop to run and specialty ice creams to create. Only the place is falling apart, and she may have a haunted jukebox that chooses songs to communicate. If things couldn’t get any more complicated, Drake, her ex-fiancé, returns home after five years on the road with his rock band, Never Mind the Damage.
Eastyn vows not to fall for Drake’s charms again, but when you have a lifetime of memories with the man, the heart seems not to care about pledges. Her haunted jukebox believes choosing the right song to twirl and dip to is the answer to everything. However, Eastyn isn’t convinced. She wants to know if Drake is home for good, or will he break her heart all over again?

I love how they’re both not saying what they really want to say.
P.T.,
Just dancing around what needs to be said but too scared to take it.
So much still going on between these two. I hope they’ll make it work.
Iris,
Hopefully. 🙂
Eek! The tension between them is so strong! I’m really looking forward to the moment they do something about it! You’re keeping me on the edge of my seat!

Julie,
I’m so glad you enjoyed the snippet.
Wow, these two surely can dance around what they need to say to each other! But it’s very well done (in terms of the writing) and I do believe it…great snippet!
Veronica,
They do have their dancing shoes on, don’t they? lol
The tension is rising – so much unsaid, so much unsure. Great snippet.
Shari,
Thank you.
That lowered voice will do it every time! So emotion packed with just a few words. Great snippet!
Jenna,
Thank you. So glad you enjoyed the snippet.
Poor girl. She has her memories, but it would be so hard to trust him again.
Elaine,
It would be difficult. Even if her heart wants to.
I love how you’re creating a relationship rich in subtlety.
Sorry for the late visit – I was in deadline hell. But I got the MS in on time!
I agree with the others about their dance. Very emotional scene. I give him points for saying something first.
