We’re continuing from where we left off last week. If you’re interested, here’s the link to the second snippet from WANTED:
Set up for this week: JoBeth (outlaw) is behind bars and has just met Sheriff Jace’s six year old daughter, Emma, who believes JoBeth will be her mother because she dreamt about a woman with dark hair, green eyes and shamrocks in her pockets. Emma has just been ushered out of the office by Mrs. Gunthry, leaving Jace and JoBeth alone.
JoBeth’s POV.

Jace turned to JoBeth then, his gaze latching onto hers with what looked like pity. This threw her off. She expected a tongue lashing at the very least for her behavior.
“I’m sorry Emma put you on the spot,” he told her.
He was sorry?
“She… well, Emma never knew her mother, ” he went on to explain as if she needed to hear an explanation why his daughter was a wee bit touched in the head. “It was a difficult birth and… Emma’s mother didn’t survive.”
His sad smile pulled at her heartstrings, and she squirmed, feeling uncomfortable with the sensation. Her hands squeezed the bars, willing herself not to give a lick about Sheriff Jace Kelly and his woes. She didn’t want to hear anymore, but the man obviously had mistaken her for a preacher and continued to bare his soul.

Emma may not be the only one who will warm JoBeth’s heart. What do you think? Hope you enjoyed the snippet of WANTED.
Until next week, take care.
About the Book:
Sheriff Jace Kelly’s wife died birthing his remarkable daughter, Emma. She inherited the families’ seer abilities. At six years old, she can’t tell the difference between a vision and an ordinary dream. So Jace doesn’t put much faith in Emma’s recent premonition: marriage for him and a new mother for her.
When JoBeth Riley arrives, Emma is convinced she’s the woman in her dream: dark hair, green eyes, and shamrocks in her pocket. There’s one problem – she’s the notorious outlaw, Baby Face Jo. Her stay in town is meant to keep Shane Maverick, the leader of the outlaw gang, from finding her before the authorities devise a plan to capture him.
JoBeth finds the Kellys a strange lot. A little girl, who believes her dreams are tales of the future and the rugged sheriff whose kindness proves a distraction. She’s an outlaw, for heaven’s sake, but Jace is bound and determined to steal her heart.

well done on the contradicting emotions …. enjoyed today’s snippet.
Iris,
So glad you enjoyed the snippet. 🙂
Interesting dynamic at work here. You’ve got me wondering what makes the sheriff spill his problems to an outlaw behind bars.
Edward,
Small town, haven’t had a prisoner in a while and definitely not a woman, and his daughter just said JoBeth was her mother. lol
She seems to be trying to be tougher that she really is. She could just tell him to shut up if she really doesn’t want to know.
Linda,
The thin is…I think she does. 🙂
I like this one! Her longed for indifference escapes her. Wonderful blurb, too,Karen. Good snippet!
Teresa,
So glad the blurb caught your attention too. 🙂
She’s sure having trouble coping with how normal people act, isn’t she?
I like that about her; she’s not fighting her circumstances, she’s fighting her survival mechanisms. 🙂
Sarah,
You are so getting JoBeth!!
LOL love the line about the preacher. Great snippet, Karen. 🙂 And my allowance came in so I got my copy. 🙂
Siobhan,
So thrilled you’re going to read WANTED. I Hope you enjoy the tale!!
ahh. sucker for the kiddies. bet she cant hold out
Michelle,
She may not know it yet, but she will soon realize what she’s been missing by living on the run.
This is all becoming too hard for her to remain detached, which I’m enjoying very much. Terrific snippet!
Veronica,
So glad you’re enjoying the story. 🙂 The Kellys are a likable bunch. lol
Karen, you have all the characters needed for a wonderful touching story. Beautiful ten.
Charmaine,
So glad you think so. 🙂
Love how JoBeth keeps finding herself turning this way and that, trying to hold onto her hard exterior, never realizing that all those cracks means she’s losing the war
Eden,
So very true. 🙂
I think slowly but surely, they’ll all wear down one another’s resistance and become a real family.
Carrie-Anne,
We can only hope. 🙂
mistaken her for a preacher. So funny.
Elaine,
Glad you liked the line. 🙂
Little by little they are chiseling away at that hard exterior she likes to hide behind. Nice emotional involvement.
I love the bit about mistaking her for a preacher. LOL I also love that she’s listening instead of turning away.
The sheriff does seem determined to bare his soul… Good thing he has a captive audience. Captive. See what I did there?
This is a nice piece of dialogue with introspection.
Jeff,
Too funny. Yep, he sure does have a captive audience. lol
